Topic: Albania Through a Plastic Lens

Hi all,

I'm still trawling through my Albania photos. Was interrupted by a week in Marrakech (picking those negs up today). Last night I scanned a few of the more promising looking b/w snaps taken with my Coronet Commander; the same cam that Leon recently posted some photos from. I too have enlarged the mask at the back; hence the crazy borders. The first one I like a lot, but the neg was very thin so I had to get as much as I could with careful scanning and Photoshop curves. The final result is pretty good and puts me in mind of one of Skorj's blown out 665 Polaroids.

the first one reminds of a cross betweeen Casablanca and The Battle of Algiers, sort of spy/spook feeling. Second image is really strong, love it. Isn't it amazing what toy cameras can do.

Yeah, they can be great. I spent a few years married to various toy cameras and have been working backwards since then through Polaroids, RFs and SLRs of different flavours. Haven't seriously touched a toycam in 2 years, but then on these two recent trips (Albania and Marrakech) I decided to take along the Coronet and my Agfa Isola. Glad I did.

Love the first two especially.  Holidays are great aren't they? They always make me think about the way I shoot.

That first image is super, the composition is really strong , the circular road markings  winding path and the subjects placement add great strength to the image.  It also has mood and atmosphere. Super.

The first one does indeed appeal. Curious dat eh? The wall and road combo makes for a great subject...

I must admit to liking to tower shot best.  I like the way the lens distortion combined with looking up at it make it seem like it is arching back towards to hills.
