Forum Upgrade Fallout
« on: June 13, 2012, 04:00:19 PM »
Team, the forum seems to have upgraded without too many hitches. It looks different, but we're working on getting it back  (see other post). In the meantime, can you please post any other issues/changes to this thread, please and I'll try and sort them out.

I notice for instance, that the FW logo at the top of the page no longer takes you to filmwasters.com, but just back to the forum homepage. Things like that will need to be sorted out.

Cheers, Ed

Looks pretty nice for now. At least the images are still there!

I just forged a Filmwasters logo with transparency so it doesn't look as blocky white on gray.

here's another one, took the gray from around and put that as the bg in the gif. also scaled down so it won't run over that dark line to the right and get cropped on the top.

together we can find something that works! haha

OK, made a second one that doesn't look as crappy as the first...
and a smaller one that should fit the current theme.

Suzi: Very nice....a lovely, new you  :)

Francois: Thanks for the GIF-work. I've used the one which looks best, but which is a little big. Don't change image anymore though. I'll edit the config file (assuming I can find it) to make the image fit. Not now though....the kids are home and they want their tea!

Can someone please try out Tapatalk now that we've upgraded forum and let me know how you get on? I can test Android at a push, but not Crackberry and iOS (iPhone/iPad). Cheers.

OK, this is probably the ultimate test.
This was sent from a Sony Mylo Com2 internet device which the preevious forum really didn't like!

I just wonder why they stopped supporting it?

Tapatalk on the iphone isn't working for me - I'm getting the message Received from client compressed HTTP request and cannot  decompress.

I have no idea what that means! I am trying to log out and log back in, but, that seems to be an issue as well!

I'll update if I progress.

Thanks for feedback everyone.

Sandeha: I have a Nokia phone and have been able to use the forum on it for years. It all depends which phone though and how you're accessing the forum. Use the phone's Web browser and go to http://www.filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?wwwRedirect;wap2=;wap2 - that will give you a very stripped down interface, but it will work. There's also a Filmwasters app that I knocked up for Symbian (Nokia) phones. It's available from the Nokia Store for free. Just search on 'Filmwasters'. It's not fully featured, but will keep you up to date on all new forum posts.

Phil: Damion was having problems with Tapatalk on his iPhone last weekend while he was round here. Not sure if they're the same ones you're having, but I'll double check that we're using the latest version of the Tapatalk server software.

Peter R: Are you using Tapatalk on your BB, or just the normal Web interface?

Just looking at it now on my ipad. What's with the weird design by the logo that looks like a tab? And the browsing section seems very narrow...lots pointless dark space on both sides... Pictures don't fit in the space.

That's better. Thanks, Ed. I'd accidentally clicked on Full Version and couldn't get back to the wap. Couldn't get here with the old version tho. :)

Hi Sean, thanks for the feeback re your "Filmwasters on the iPad experience"....I must say, I checked the forum on my own tablet (HP Touchpad running webOS and Android) and it looks absolutely fine, so it's good to know that it's not working for you. The 'weird' design stuff at the top is as per the theme that I selected in 5 minutes during the upgrade and hasn't been messed with by me at all. The old theme isn't compatible with the upgraded forum software, which is incredibly annoying, but par for the course in these things (welcome to my world!). I chose the theme closest to our old theme, but it was always going to be different.

Regarding the dark space on either side of the main forum column.....I can alter this by percentages and have currently set it at 75%. I have a big screen here at home and it looks fine, but I'll tweak it up to 90% for smaller screen sizes. The previous theme allowed me to set width by the number of pixels instead of a percentage, so it was easier to get an absolute size. Let me know if 90% works better for you.....also, it might be worth trying Tapatalk on an iOS device if the experience isn't great using the Web browser. It costs something like $2 if I remember correctly, but it might be worth it.

So far however, the only thing I've changed is the logo, so if anything is really bothering anyone I may be able to work on it....or choose a different theme.

There's actually three different addresses for different portable devices. One of the is bound to look better.

Cheers, Phil. It's working fine for me too on the Android version of Tapatalk. Good to know that the same is true for iOS users.

Yes, they are unfortunately downsized and you have to click on them to see the bigger size. Ed, maybe we can make the downsized version a bit bigger?

Good point, guys; thanks for the feedback. This must be another setting which gets over-written by the upgrade. I'll re-configure it so it's the same as the previous version was before the upgrade.
