So today there was a huge victoria garage sale where this small town has a townwide garage sale. I saw a bag that looked firmiliar. Saw a polariod insignia on it and dove in. In there i found a Polaroid SX-70 Type 3, a "fresh" pack of SX-70 film, and a bunch of flash bulbs. Some never shot. After a little research it looks like this is the only SX-70 that isnt an SLR (boo) and that the film that was in the camera was dried up and pooched (boo). But the box of polaroid film was never opened so i had some hope it would work. The film looks like it was on its way out as there isnt enough chemistry to cover the entire film but some of the effects are really interesting.

If you are wondering the price i paid, it was a mere $10. Not a bad score.

I did have some ejection problems, and i forgot about the fact its not an SLR so i botched up a couple films (boo), but i still have two shots left that I will save for a special occasion.

p.s i had to do the mirror shot! i know its not good/overdone/hipster/whatever but i wanted to show the camera! Didnt really come out though. I have much to learn with how instant reacts to light.

Ive been googling and watching youtube videos. I really want to get some film now! i finished off those two shots, couldnt wait. But the chemical only got to like one corner so the exposures were junk.

Want to play more with this. Have to wait to get the film i think. I just ordered a bunch of stuff from fourcornerstore last week.

the color and tones definitely have me hooked now. I keep looking back at my 35mm cameras as if something is missing. Cant wait to get shooting with this again. Im pretty sure that theres a store that sells impossible films in toronto. Maybe i'll hit that up next weekend.

Just got back from toronto. Shelled out 75$ for 2 packs of PX-70. I Had some coverage issues in my first few exposures. But my third exposure I finally got full coverage which had me really excited.

Im overly joyed with the two exposures that i had turn out. 2/3 isnt bad. But at 4.70 a shot 3/3 would be nicer. Anyways I'll scan out the shots. From my understanding the PX-70 should clear up and look much better 24 hours after but im just too excited.

Where the magic happens.

Couple of beauties, there...!!

However, at $75 for 16 shots of TiP film (a whopping £3 per shot this side of the Atlantic), I would expect them to only turn out badly if I'd done something fundamentally wrong with the exposure or my camera had fouled up.

That said, I've recently got my SX-70 back and I'm going to give TiP a go again - on a limited scale. I suppose those of us who shot the original SX-70 film in its hey-day are spoiled and are only eager for TiP to produce something that feels like it's worth the money....

I think (not 100% certain) that there is a new "black border" B&W TiP that has much better contrast and produces proper black, white and grey tones - instead of the icky poo brown mess I've had to-date.

"Which SX-70 TiP film looks like what" is, perhaps, a suitable subject for a new thread?

After long time avoiding the TIP film, and after a first experience which was far than positive, I decided to try it again. The results were more than disappointing, really, not to mention the price, with that price I can even buy decent expired 4x5 polaroid film..

may be it was not the latest edition, it was UV+, and both color and B&W

and after couple of weeks of shooting it the colors are already mutating and ¨ crystal killers¨are showing up in the B&W

and, and, and.... $:-\$

Sorry to hear about this as I got some cheap IP 600 colour and b/w recently (last generation) so I could have some fun with my Polaroid 680 SLR... Gonna hit some shots today... Wish me luck or as the SAS would say... The seven P's ...

Proper planning and preparation prevents pi55 poor performance...

I'll drop some in the weekend thread if I get any results... No pressure...

I've seen some proper dapper shots with IP... Some photographers just seem to make it work... $:-\$

me too. Im thinking either they shoot a few until they get what they want, or they are just lucky. From what im reading it doesnt seem like IP films are 100% foolproof or reliable.

also one more thing to note about the instant club. Last night i was looking into instant backs for my LCA+. I love the LCA as i like to think i know how to shoot with it decently and adding the instant factor i think that interesting results could be had.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the little fuji films that the instant backs use?

I use the big Instax and can say many good things about it. It's very stable, hard to damage and very reliable. Color wise, I find it very nice. Doing a food comparison, if Polaroid is more like a nice cake, Fuji is more like popsicles.

But keep in mind that Instax is an 800 ISO film... you're bound to get big grain with the LCA adapter.

Naw, them boys is too good to be lucky... They know a good shot when they see one and know the films parameter and exploit... Anyway, when I got my SLR680 for a paltry one pound I shot this with the film inside not expecting anything. Now you see, I prefer the PX image due to the background and the way it blends with the bike... Reminds me on Sunday while out on the Superduke I got caught up with over one hundred scooters near Bethnal Green... It stunk of two stroke...

Well, TIP is always a work in progress. But I think they might have reached another milestone. They have made a new opacifier which is said to work. I think the up and coming versions will be surprisingly good.

For me, it's just a matter of waiting until it reaches the point where it just works.

I've really liked some of the IP ive shot. Disappointingly some have aged poorly, but I haven't followed their instructions. Some have aged perfectly. Looking forward to hearing about the improvements to the next batch. They'll get there....

Well Im bumping this up because i have a polaroid 420 land camera on route to my place with two packs of fuji 3000b. VERY excited to shoot with this.

Also for those who dont know, i posted on flickr that i wasnt having very much luck with TIP films. Low and behold i was contacted from TIP and they offered to send me a pack of new film since it seemed that my pack was defective because i couldn't get full dev paste coverage to save my life. Yesterday i received two packs of PX Cool in color. I cant wait to shoot them, and a HUGE kudos to TIP for going out of their way to find me. (i honestly don't know how they did it. My flickr isn't affiliated with any of my other accounts i don't think)

Ironically enough the last two shots of the old PX 70 color film i had turned out with full paste coverage. Though I wasn't super quick on the shielding on the first of the two i shot.

i was thinking of the frogs tongue. I didnt spend much on my SX-70 so dropping $10 on a frogs tongue when i spent $10 on the whole outfit i got is a little hard. Im using the protective card method seen off the TIP website. For the most part it works well. This is my first time pretty much shooting in bright sunlight with the SX-70. I'll post up results from tonight if i get around to snapping a few off with the PX Cool

Just played with the new PX Cool. So far, im LOVING it. Blacks and darks have a hint of green. Whites still have a warm tone. Excellent greens in grass and such. Smooth smooth mids and shadows, something i was riddled with with crystals and such with my PX color shade. This new film is something i could take somewhere and be confident with. I pretty much got perfect coverage. Except for a little tiny tiny bit at the top centre. Something im not even going to bother with. Acceptable to me. I also found it to develop much faster than the old film.

Heres the method ive been using. I think those overexposed shots were perhaps within the film itself. Ive been shooting a lot outside and havent seen the same problem.

Still getting the hang of things. Buying peel apart in canada is ridiculous. A single pack of FP-100c is around $23 meanwhile the exact same film on BH is $7.50. Ah canada...

Anyways Heres my first ever shot with the new camera! So far im waiting for my magical shot. Still getting used to the lighten darken (since with impossible films there isnt that much play) Scanning negatives is really cool. And in the positives there is very little grain. Suprising for a 3000iso film.

Im open to pointers with this peel apart stuff. I just did an order at BH for a bunch of color and some more BW. I should be stocked up after that.

Well, not as nice as scoring an SX-70 (congratulations!) but I just picked up a very clean Super Shooter Plus for $2 at a second-hand store.

It'll be Tuesday before I can get to Anchorage and pick up some pack film, but woohoo! Recharging AA batteries now.

Was unexpectedly in "the big city" today and stopped by the camera store. Turns out they don't carry pack film anymore, but they still had two packs of expired FP-3000B in the fridge cheap, so I snapped them up. Loaded it up when I got to my mother-in-law's house and comedy ensued. Tore the black paper, detaching the 1st tab from the black paper on the wrong side of the rollers. Tried to pull the picture through the rollers via the little paper tab, separating the layers and smearing pictures one through three.

This is attempt #4. As you can see, my technique leaves a bit to be desired, but voila, an image!

I had problems loading my Polaroid Folder too. I ended up having to use painter's tape to be able to pull the black cover out.

I also had problems with a Colorpack that wrecked 3 prints when I used the "Polaroid recommended technique" for holding the camera while pulling the film out...

i believe they stopped making the 45, im not sure what the difference is though? I have 4 packs of soon to be expired 100c in the mail right now. just got to pick them up. Thinking of leaving them as long as i can for some interesting effects.

I did have problems getting my darkslide out on my first pack, but i assume that this is to be expected. Second pack went way smoother.

I know it works with Fuji FP, so film is not a problem. But it does rely on the magicubes for exposure... something that can be problematic as you can only get them at auction sites. I know there was a company that made an electronic adapter for them... but somehow can't find it.

The other option would be to hack the camera so it works with electronic flash... not recommended for beginners

Welcome to 'The Instant Club'... It's great fun whatever camera you use. My favourite film is Fujifilm FP-100C so I use packfilm Land cameras (180 and 340).

If you shop around, packfilm is not too expensive in the UK. If you're coming to instant photography from digital, you should take into account that you haven't got to worry about buying glossy printer paper or expensive printer ink. If you're coming from 35mm (like myself) then the cost of the packfilm is partly offset by the lack of developing costs.

At the end of the day, I use FP-100C because I'm really pleased with the results...

i havent been so happy with my FP-100c results yet. Im still trying to tweak the exposure as my 420 land camera seems to underexpose at its middle lighten/darken setting. So exposure it a little tricky.
