It's the weekend again! (5/6th of May)
« on: May 03, 2012, 01:04:49 PM »
Recovering from a fever (one of the few downsides of having kids) I finally have the time to scan some film. Here's the first batch. Yashica Mat on Fuji Provia 100F. Shots taken last November in Grenoble, France in the Christmas market.

They sure do come around quick.

Another shot of Mr Pig, he's a bit shy in this one. And I made my friend Di sit on a bench and look miserable for me  ;D

What kind of cake was that?
Looks yummy...
If you have a chance, try and get some "Gâteau Basque". It's really good and they have different recipes all across France. Usually, it's made with fruit and "pâte d'amande" but the best I've ever tasted had the fruits replaced by custard... decadent.

That's just a basic Starbucks cheese cake, Francois. There's no Starbucks here in Grenoble and my wife had to go to the one in Lyon first thing :) There's good coffee available in France of course (unlike in Germany), but she does like the flavoured sweet ones from Starbucks better.

We'll try Gateau Basque at some point. We're just not done with the regional stuff yet (ravioles savoyardes, diots de Savoie, ...)

You want piggies?
Here the scene from this morning down on The Croft. Here we see Mr Crofter Sir getting pig-sick of some of his piggies when they invaded the not-yet-covered poly-tunnel and would not go away. Any amount of tempting with food, pushing and shouting took place - even I got in on the fun. In the end we did get them out and I left with them sleeping it all off in the cow-byre!

I have to agree with Lino. That Rickenbacker is great. Always wanted to have one :)

And Lino, thanks for the kind words. Though I have to be more careful with lens flare. The Yashica and the Arax seem to be much more prone to flare than any of my 35mm SLRs. I guess I should get a Minolta SLR again, ... ;)

Trying the greenhouse as a photostudio, the light there is amazing, though a little crowded with all tomatos and cucumberplants....

Love the blacks in the images of the band practice, Sandeha - really solid & graphic and creates a strong composition. I never seem to try that - always trying to keep detail in the shadows when perhaps the opposite would make a better picture.

Greta thread - as ever. Favourites, so far:

- Sherwoodforester's little girl
- Miller's Polaroid and
- Britt's oh-so-cute doggie pic

Mine are from a recent trip to Cambridge. A couple of grab shots using the Mamiya 7, 65mm lens and Portra 160. Scanned on the V750 and minimal post-processing, save a crop to square and a bit of sharpening.

I know you live in some uber-isolated part of the country Diane, but surely there must be someone you can talk to without resorting to building your own friends?

The first thought (aside from what a good photo it is) that came into my mind is "well, now they've named the goalkeeper, who's playing right back, left back and central defence?"
