My very first wet collodion plates
« on: May 01, 2012, 06:53:55 PM »
I've spent a wonderful weekend in Glasgow learning this amazing technique with Carl Radford... I'm really pleased with my first experience and very excited to be able to use what I've learnt in the future.

Learning this process it's almost like a survival guide for those (like me) who fears that one day film will not exist or will be really hard to get!

Brilliant.

Was it Jean Cocteau who, when discussing opium, said something like, "Ah, but have you tried ether?"  It was quite popular in France in the seventies ...  ::)

(But you possibly did not want to know that.)

But seriously, if that's your first attempt, it is brilliant.

These are really nice Mauricio! What a shame Deborah was ill and couldn't make it up to assist Carl - would have been nice for you to meet her as she is lovely  :)

Damn these look good Sapata!

I'm running out of options to develop film here. I'm very curious about wet collodium now  ;D

Fantastic series, Mauricio...!!

For me the second one looks the most technically accomplished but they're all superb photos.

Well done, Mauricio and obviously a big shout must go out to his teacher and Collodion sage, Mr Radford  :)

I like the look of the attractive gent in the second shot...now who could that be I wonder?

How big are the resulting plates, BTW?

Indeed ! Carl is really Knowledgeable and he was very helpful in every aspect during my stay in Glasgow, worth mentioning that he's doing another workshop end of May.

Attractive?  That's me trying to stay motionless with eyes open for 6 seconds under the freezing windy weather conditions !  ;D

We've done loads of 8.5 x 6.5" and a few 4x5 as well ...

Beautiful work Mauricio! I am hoping to get a chance to do a workshop with Carl..Suzi, Britt and I talked about it while in Paris last year..Unfortuneately I can't come over in the summer, but maybe something will open up in the other months!

Freezing and windy in Scotland. That's strange.  ;)
Fabulous results!

Thank you so much guys... ;)  I really hope you all have a chance to do at least once...

I'll do whatever I can to do more back home... still don't know how easy it will be to get the chemicals in there but I guess I can always import from the US.

These are excellent.  Welcome to the world of wet plate - it is an addiction :-)

Carl is a brilliant teacher and I spy Douglas in there too, sorry you didn't get to meet Deb - another time hopefully.

Look forward to seeing some more plates from you.

Thanks for the kind words Lucy. However, Carl has now retired from teacher and handed the mantle over to Deborah Parkin and Alex Boyd - there are others of course!

Ill second what others have said–lovely work. I think you can feel justifiably proud.
There's more to this photography thing than meets the eye.
