Adding more than three images to a thread????
« on: February 23, 2012, 06:29:26 AM »
I think that Leon's latest thread on "Wednesday Locations" is a brilliant idea. I would be grateful for a mini tutorial on how to post more than three images at a time on the same thread. Perhaps there are other filmwasters with the same dilemma! Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Lawrie.

the key is to host the images elsewhere then post a link to the image file,

Actually, we prefer for people to host their own images (a flickr free account is perfect - even if you exceed your image limits, you can still store the pics with flickr and use them elsewhere, they just won't show up on the public view of your flickr account) - I think our forum software deletes pics that are over a certain age (Ed?) so it is better for longevity to host elsewhere and link directly.

if you use the image tag (found under the I button and above the  ;) and  :D smileys)
you can use the direct link to an image to include it in a post.

for example, if you have the link http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2464/3625587191_5963633599_z.jpg
write it like this:
Code: [Select]
[img]http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2464/3625587191_5963633599_z.jpg[/img]

I have always had trouble with this so thank you for the simple explanation. I shall use it ;D

Lawrie has inadvertently got me wondering whether or not a recent software upgrade hasn't changed the 'max attachaments' setting for the forum. I could have sworn we set it up originally supposed to be a max of 5 files per post with a max size of 200kb per image. Hmmm.

EDIT: JUst checked and it is indeed supposed to be 5 x 200kb. I'll reset it as such ASAP.

Leon's sort of correct about the 'images not lasting forever' point, but the reality is that you're more likely to have your images erased by me doing something stupid during a manual software upgrade (the last time I accidentally deleted all of the images on all forum boards  :'( :'( )...than have your images reach their age limit and get deleted automagically. It's a vaild point though.

Personally, I use a combo of directly posted images and links to photos hosted on my Flickr stream.

And on a related thought we should post something on the Housekeeping board about how to link/embed/upload images and video here. I'll see about that.
