Leap Day Post Card Swap
« on: February 01, 2012, 07:45:54 AM »
Leap Day is pretty special!
It only comes around every four years and I thought it would be fun if we did a post card swap.

The rules that follow are pretty simple.

Mail a photo postcard on Leap Day – Wednesday, February 29, 2012.

You will only need to send one postcard to one person so you only need to print one card.  That's easy!

The printing can be darkroom or inkjet as long as the original photo was captured on film.

Postcards should be sent naked (not in an envelope)

Sign up no later than February 11 to join in.  On February 13 you will be partnered with another Filmwaster to swap cards with.

This allows plenty of time to make your card and get it ready for mailing on Leap Day.  If you can't mail it on Leap Day, then please don't sign up!

We are striving for a Leap Day cancellation mark on the card!  If you can get the card hand cancelled that would be even better!

PM me your address and email if you want to play!

Thanks!
Becky......with permission from Leon.

Yes, the photo card needs to be postmarked on the 29th of February. Leap Day!

It's a unique day, so your card will be a rare treasure.

And remember, you only need to make and send out one card.

Thanks!

Please send me your addresses and e-mails (if you have not done so already) so I can sort this out quickly when February 13 arrives.

Thanks all!  And remember, you'll only need to send one card.  Postmarked on Leap Day, February 29th.

We are NOT exchanging with everyone that signs up.

I'll have my husband draw names out of a changing bag or something appropriate to match up names.

Thanks!
 :)

Just a few more days for sign up!

This is an easy swap, you only need to send one card and have it post marked February 29.
That's it!
The card can be printed in the darkroom or inkjet as long as the original capture was made with film.

Send the card naked=not in an envelope and you're done.

Sign up ends February 11 at midnight.
I'll put all of the collected names in a dark bag and draw out card swap pairs  February 13.

Don't miss out, this opportunity only comes once every four years!!!!

ahh I'll sign up for this. I'm vaguely getting back to photography and might have a community darkroom set up before the leap day(hey it got running water and blackout curtains in about a week of me keeping on top of people vs. the previous 8 months of stalling so... maybe we'll actually have *stuff* by the end of the month...)
oh wait yeah i totally read about having it ready for leap day to be postmarked. Still in though. Might have to be cyanotype card if nothing else.

If you are joining in, don't forget to PM me your mailing address and your e-mail so I can contact you.

I need your e-mails because the FW forum here only lets us send two private e-mails per hour.  This takes a while when trying to contact a bunch of people.
So, please send me your emails with your addresses if you haven't already!

Thanks so much!
Becky..your humble postcard wrangler.   :)

Others will probably chime in on this, but I have used a service like QOOP
http://www.qoop.com/ to print cards.  The quality is very good!
I've also used a photo lab print and then attached it to water color paper for added stiffness.
Others have sent a darkroom print on fiber based photo paper, which is naturally pretty hefty.

Part of the charm of sending the postcard is the extra "character" it acquires by going through the mail service.
Hope this helps.

Silver gelatin prints hold up fine. Ilford makes a postcard RC paper that is a little heavier than regular RC paper. If I use regular RC paper I add full size label to the back to stiffen it up.  Double weight fiber based paper Is heavy enough and also work well. Don't have much experience with ink jet, although the one time I did use it I had no complaints. Does anyone remember the abandon travel trailer?

For this exchange I sending a fiber darkroom print.

I use Red River post card stock for inkjet printing.
It's what I've sent out the last postcard exchanges I've participated in. I really like the quality.
