It is the weekend, right? Jan 19 to whenever...
« on: January 20, 2012, 12:18:30 AM »
Because this thing has usually been started with 20 posts by now! Just got back from a three-day New Mexico road trip, here are a couple shots from today of fp-100B in the 190. Really dig this film, too bad it is defunct. Soft and sharp at the same time...

A bit of colour into the week end.  Some glass houses near Nazeing.  Part of my rambling series about the Lea Valley.  Shot last summer with a Holga.

A great start to the weekend.

An old turbine (circa 1890's) captured on Rollei SL66 with Distagon 50mm. Fuji Acros developed in Pyrocat-HD.

Like the bw stuff so far~

Sean: always a pleasure to look at your shots~ I can only agree with you considering that type of film, even if I haven’t shot it myself. I wanted to get into pack cameras but with that gone, I don’t know..

Hookstrapped: Nice dramatic tone in that fishnet shot! Feels like a tory waiting to be told~

SpratNPray: digging the tunnel shot! The symmetry works well~

But now it’s time to break off the bw streak with some colour! …I was gonna say that but while typing other colour shots have come up! Nigel has put up a colourful shot that makes me wonder; what are they looking at??

First one is some street shootin’ in a small town. Quite different from a big one where you can just disappear in the crowd.. read a nice write up about this (sadly only in Swedish though) http://www.fotosidan.se/blogs/joakimke/nu-ar-den-klar-gatufoto-i.htm

Second is of my GF. I thought the out of focus areas looked kind of interesting. Maybe I’m just not uset to how colour looks in my yashica ;P

Both are shot with a Yashica 635 TLR on Velvia 50

lovely shots as always by everyone, like the polas and the legs on the stairs.

Sean - just to say there was a US seller selling lots of 100b on the bay not long ago at very good prices, even with shipping to the UK, worth a look if you haven't already.

Did you expose it at 100iso? I've only shot one of my packs so far but was struggling to expose it nicely, although there was no definition in the sky, just totally flat grey light, so that may have been the reason.

Love the turbine shot, Lawrie - contrast and tonality works very well for me  Sean's first pola and jojonas' delicious velvia colours are also catching my eye.

yeah that's where i get my 100b from. lots on ebay so far. i use a filter on my 190, and shoot at 30 or 60 (depending on light) and wide open. but yeah it's a bit touchy without a filter, tends to overexpose very easily. blows out highlights a lot. though without a filter i've shot it at 250 and 11 or 16.

One from the past from me... taken at the LCC college back many years ago when Polaroid was still alive, I guess with a Cambo or Toyo... can't remember :P unfortunatley is one of the few pictures I took using this film before the prices went sky high...

I own this very beautiful Kodak Box Camera...  still takes amazing pictures ! It's a real shame about whole Kodak situation.

What a cracker we have to-date.......

- Moominsean. Love the "Preg Cows" sign. Priceless....
- Hookstrapped. Very seductive photo. Lots left to the imagination.
- SprayNPray. Fantastic tunnel shot.
- Charlesbinns. Fabulous colours and what awesome cloud detail.
- Lawrie. That is a gorgeous shot with fantastic detail.
- Nigel. Real drama. Looks like part of a story board.
- Jojonas. Great second shot. Such a cheeky look she's giving you...
- JWarden. The reflections on the window make the shot for me.
- Diane. For me, the best of the week. I adore this shot.
- Paul Mitchell. Wow - that second shot was worth the walk, wasn't it...?
- Phil B. Just brilliant tones in the mono shot - as ever.
- Sapata. A really beautiful shot of a great camera.
- Sandeha. Beau blur....
- Astrobeck. Very colourful but spooky!

Mine are a few shots from a trip to Cambridge earlier this month, taken with the Rolleiflex.

Thank you Diane... :)
It's in fact one of the only few pictures I have framed on the wall..., because it's an original polaroid.

It's funny because this was meant to be the "polaroid test" before shooting the 4x5 film, but when I saw the result there was no need to carry on... no other film would've given me this effect.

Hi all, long time no see. Ive been so busy and rather poor recently to haven't managed to do much film photography :-( mostly just boring digital stuff. but here are some shots taken with my RB67 on old expired portra 160 on Holiday in the lake district last summer. its taken me an awful long time to get round to scanning them as I had to organise going round to my uncles to use his V700.

Fantastic work all round btw.

Whoah! Hold on there, bald Eagle! This is indeed a clever and inspiring group of photos; wow! As I was reading down from the top I thought to myself, "This week I'll definitely comment on other people's work and not just post a photo and run away." But, as I scrolled down I realised that there was too much of note for me to comment on everything that I liked. This week's collection is extra special so I can't even begin to hope to cover everyone.

Braindump:

Thom!! Welcome back. It's great to see you again, but do come and comment even if you don't have work to share. Good luck with the Icelandic trip.
Sean: Yeah, this combo works for you and I love the softness you've achieved with the 100B. Normally it's a very stark film and, much as I love it like that, I think you're getting more out of it than I ever have.
Paul Mitchell: Bl**dy hell. You really are good as this photography thing, aren't you. Very, very, inspiring. Strong composition and loads of oomph added via your process; a perfect blend of style and substance.
Euge: That first shot is hilarious and had me laughing for minutes. Superb!
Phil: I'm working on a song at the moment which fits your New Mexico shot perfectly. For both our sakes I wish I was a famous rock star and then I'd use this shot as the single sleeve....except we don't really 'do' single anymore do we? Hmmm. Anyway, all that's beside the point; your photo is stunning. Clean, mean and strong.
Andrea: WTF!? You have some explaining to do. You can't just write "Ektachrome" and then leave us guessing  ;D
Windy: That last one. Damn! What an explosion of light, colour and happiness. You rule.
Mauricio: Please come to Balham and give me that print. I'll look after it, I promise  ;D
Nigel: Seriously, that Holga of yours really is one in a million. Don't ever buy another one. Not sure I've seen you take a bad shot with it.
Jonas: Love the first shot in particular, but the portrait is cool too. What's with the blue hair?

Sorry for not commenting on all the shots here, but I need to go and interrupt and Angry Birds-inspired fight between my children, so I'll leave you with my contribution and wish you all a happy weekend.

Me & Tacita Dean (but mostly her) by Ed Wenn, on Flickr

Taken at the Tate Modern last Saturday at the Tacita Dean exhibition: http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/exhibitions/unilever2011/default.shtm with my Land Camera 360 on expired Polacolor 690 stained in coffee. It's a companion piece to last weekend's photo and it's bit on the minimalist tip, but I'm happy with the texture and the colours. A less charitable view would be that it's a photo of pretty much nothing...and I would really be able to disagree with that, but I'm just happy to have found time to point the camera at something and press the Go! button.

Andrea: WTF!? You have some explaining to do. You can't just write "Ektachrome" and then leave us guessing  ;D

Uh! Surely it's obvious.
Ektachrome is Kodak film. Put in a camera [possibly Petri 7s], don't focus it properly, move the camera a bit, over-expose it [I think] forget about the film for 6 months then send it to the cheapest lab you can find. When it comes back, stick it in the scanner and press the Vuescan 'go' button. And this is what you get.

And I thought you were a Filmwaster!  :D

Fantastic lot of images here. It amazes me more and more what comes on this thread!

Fantastic weekend, everyone!

I always have an embarrassing number of cameras with a half-roll of something that needs the other half shot. Finally offed a roll of Ferrania 200 that had been malingering since summer with a few snaps lurking from the torrential downpour at the zoo that day.

More cheap & sleazy scans from Walgreens. Addicted to the cheap processing now. It's like crack.

Magnus, I'm piling on.  Wonderful images.  I had to look up your Ikon and it looks like a really fun camera.  And the Holgas just have a way about them when used well.  Which I can't.   :D

I don't know anything about the lith process so once you find your feet it would be great to hear your thoughts about it.  The print you made looks wonderful.

Truly marvellous work.  Almost every week, around Saturday lunchtime, I think is it time I did some scans and uploaded some images onto FWs, and almost every week I take a quick look to see what s been posted so far and then think, naw, perhaps not this week.  Not in same league - can't hold a stick up to those -  need to up my game - must take up woodwork again, etc.  They're inspiring but sort of a little demoralising at the same time.

Still, maybe next week.

Oh, and Ed, would I be right in thinking the Tacita Dean image might actually glow in the dark?  A brilliant image that also has the potential to save on energy bills!  In awe at the creativity.

Finally gotten round to scanning my large format images from the recent filmwasters large format outing to Kent.

A similar composition to Leon's but I had the interloper!

Taken just a few yards away but looking up to the main promenade
