SILVERPRINT open day 9th December 2011!
« on: November 24, 2011, 11:10:11 AM »
hi All

Tim Mount from Silverprint has contacted us about Silverprint's open day on the 9th December 2011.  it will be held in their shop location: 12 Valentine Place, London SE1 8QH, and looks like it will be a great day out.

Although the full list of attractions and events are still to be confirmed, Tim said he plans to have new product releases, new cameras, demos, speakers, mince pies, mulled wine and music. It will hopefully be an opportunity to meet industry specialists, hear about how things are moving in the analogue world and mingle with likeminded professional and amateur film and darkroom users.

Ed and I (and hopefully Damion ...) will be doing our best to be there, and we plan to try and record some movie of the day for a future podcast (although I suspect a steady-cam rig will be needed after a couple of mulled wines), but I think it is well worth trying to get along.

We'll try to keep this thread updated as the events are confirmed. There is nothing on the silverprint website http://www.silverprint.co.uk/ yet, but I'm sure there will be soon.

hope to see as many of you there as can make it.

L.

So when you said you felt you were coming down with something that evening in the pub with me, Nigel and Miller...you weren't just trying to run away?
 :D ;D

Sorry to hear it caught up with you. A nasty cold and jet lag do not make a great combination. I hope you'll get better soon.

I get to call in at Silverprint a couple of times a year if my 'down south' schedules allow. It's always the same - I go with shopping list which seems to get lost as I break out in a sweaty, retail induced fever. Diane, perhaps this is what you caught? The credit card groans every time. An open day would finish me off.

Just wondering what time you guys will turn up for the event? The only time I can make it is around 17:15 which probably won't help if closes at 17:30 :-\

We will probably be there from around noon. Leon's aiming to get in to London sometime after 11 and I guess we'll head on over to Silverprint after a coffee, a Ricard/Pernod and a pack of Gauloises each.

Having just returned from holiday tonight (first day back at the orifice tomorrow  :'(), the chance of getting a day off this week is VERY limited. If I can swing it, I will be there as it's a short hop from where I work - just across the river. It's a pity they don't this sort of thing at the weekend - in addition to their weekly openings.

Ken: We'll see you there then. Excellent news.

Nigel: Yep, Leon got that email too. We may have to re-jig our plans and get there earlier if they want us to document the whole day. I thought the demos would be rolling throughout the day, but if they're all just happening once we may have to make an earlier start. Bah!

Lamest excuse ever follows:

This afternoon the high winds in the South of London blew my motorcycle over, this meant I had to leave work early to go home and sort that out.

So the few hours I had as a window to pop in and say hello on friday morning have evaporated.

It’s a shame they didn’t have the APX 100 for £1 like they did in Photographica.

Just back from Silverprint. Spent an enjoyable (albeit low key) morning/afternoon with Leon, Heather & Jon. Most of it captured on moving pixels (if such things exist) for the next video podcast. Met some great people and saw some interesting demos. Loads of mulled wine and mince pies too. In fact I feel a little queasy  ;D

I also scored 2 x 25 sheets of Silverprint's new 8x10 'Solar' paper which I plan to use with the kids over Christmas.

I tried to get there for 12:30 but got there around 2:15ish. I spotted the Four Corners guys, I recognise them as it’s down the road from me and been there a few times, and spotting you guys talking in the corner. I asked the shop assistant about the Harman TiTAN and if they had any other large format pinhole cameras and if they had any deals on film and left after that. I was running late so couldn’t stick around.

Maybe we'll get a chance to have a chat in the future some time. Leon, Heather and I left around 2.15 anyway I think. Heather headed home and Leon and I went for a fry up. Got back around 3.30PM and met up with Jon again, but there wasn't much going on so we all split.

p.s. I love the way the favicon.ico on your website changes colour. Very swish!!

(there's a happy looking Jon hiding in this picture, like a Where's Wally picture)

Worse than going home, I went brief christmas shopping near victoria station... oddly the Buckingham Palace Shop* was empty except for staff, me, and a pair of giggly tourists. Getting to/from Victoria was the worse bits.

Had a nice hour or so with the guys and watching the demos and chatting with people. Nice Mulled wine, probably should have bought more stuff... got a bit of a project in the form of a converted plate/film holder which I have to covert back to plate... didn't buy a bottle of emulsion to go with it quite yet, though.
Overall it was cool talking to other 5x4 film users :)

*I don't normally go christmas shopping there but my MIL likes royal wedding stuff. So we're going to annoy her with an Official Royal Wedding Plate which doesn't have pictures on it :)

I had a great time.  THe highlight for me was hearing Martin Reed talk about the SE1 emulsion, and it has given me the confidence to start using the bottle of the stuff that I have in the fridge. A christmas project awaits I think.

It was great as always to catch up with fellow filmwasters too - Jon, Ed and Heather.

ctrlclick00 - shame you weren't able to come over and say hello.  Maybe next time ....
