At my son's dentist the other day I picked up an old copy of Smithsonian magazine; inside there was an article about Samuel F. B. Morse, and it turns out he and Daguerre met in Paris and became fast friends. Both were, apparently, struggling to be recognized for their inventions. Morse was busy in Paris being ignored by the French government (seeking a patent for his telegraph), and Daguerre was trying to market his new photography method.
Herzlichen Gluckwunsch zum Geburtstag in French, Monsieur Daguerre!
