Almost another weekend! (aka the weekend thread)
« on: November 17, 2011, 02:42:55 PM »
As I'm sitting at home not working I have all the spare time to work on my backlog. I'm now up to April 2011 :) I seem to have problems scanning Ektar so this is the only shot of the roll that I'm happy with color wise.

More added and subtracted from my ongoing edit of street shots from Eritrea, all shot with my new old Ricoh GR1.  About 3/4 of the way through the rolls...

This is another one from a recently discovered roll (taken last year in San Francisco).

Like the intrigue is some of this week's pictures - the glimpsed faces of passengers on Dave's 'Birmingham Electric' and the untold story of Lino's street dog's owner.  Can't offer any such mystery, just some snaps from a recent autumn beach walk from Holme to Hunstanton, Norfolk.  Bessa R2M/15+25mm lenses/TMax400.
Happy weekend to all.  Nick

Can someone quickly 'splain to me the philosophy of the "weekend thread"?

Ok - It started out with Skorj (another of the site founders) posting up pictures of the various weekend expeditions he used to make around derelict places in Japan, and asking the question, "So, what did you shoot this weekend?"

This quickly grew to become a sort of weekly round up of the work people had been making over the course of the previous week.  It needn't be pictures you've taken in the last 7 days, it might be that you've only just developed a roll, or printed a series of pics.  Either way, it's a regular feature in which to show what you've been up to, film-photographically speaking.

hope that makes sense :)

@Hookstrapped - I really like the colour and light in all of them, but my preference is for 1,3 and 4.  I'm assuming she is on the toilet in #2? I'm not sure how I feel about that as a theme for the picture? The other shots in the link seem to be about something other than necessity, so I'm not sure where using the loo fits with the rest of the series. Unless you take the series in that direction also, like washing/ bathing, eating, working etc?

Great images Nick and aoluain.

I've experimented with using the lens of my Diana as a close-up lens for my SLR over the summer. I shot tons of images and now only managed to scan the first. Not entirely sure if I like them or not.

OK, excellent, thank you Leon for the explanation, I'd thought it was something like that, but as I'm new I didn't want to make an Ass out of U and Umption.   :-\

Last weekend (Friday 11-11-11) was Veteran's Day in the U.S.  I had the day off since I am a government employee so I did a little extra shooting.  This is a sculpture at the gateway to our local uni, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.  I shot this on a Kodak Six-16 Brownie which I had just received and converted to shoot 120 film in 645 format.  Kodak No. 5A Cloud Filter (yellow) attached; Ilford Pan F+ dev. in Xtol:

Here's the dedication stone at the veterans' park, called Sherrill Park after the first man (Yeoman Second Class Sherrill, US Navy) from Corpus Christi to be killed in WWII.  This stone is directly under the flag pole, as you may observe.  Shot with Canon IIF2 rangefinder, Serenar 50/1.8, Arista Premium 100 film dev. in Xtol:

Yeah, the bathroom one was sort of a joke -- besides she looks too happy.

In the end, I thought only 1 or 3 worked in the series and I went with this

An artist friend of mine came over last evening. Was lovely to see him again and especially since he brought over some glass plates and negs he had found in an old house on the island. Dating from around 1910-20 they are a wonderful resource. Jon is going to use them as part of an art project making collages and prints with Silver gelatin emulsion on watercolour paper and wood. Anyway, was looking through the little selection of glass plates he brought over and chanced upon this one which he said I could print. So I did this morning on SilverprintProof matt paper. Part diffused to try eliminate the flaws in the plate and to give it a period look. I like it :-)

I haven't had a chance to look at all the delights above yet, but I did want to post a shot from the hastily arranged (actually my fault for not seeing to it earlier) FW transatlantic meetup, in London, when Diane jetted in for a flying visit.

It was great to see her, ED and Miller for a couple of swift shandies. :D

What a diverse set of images.

- Love Hookstrapped's "wee lassie"  ;)
- F6.3's images are as beautiful as they are sharp
- Sapata's door is just sensational
- Favourite so far is Andrea's portrait with the Retinette

My shots are a couple of test shots from a roll I took on the way to work this morning. The film was Portra 400NC (made to look like Tri-X in the mono shot) and a straight shot of some weird coloured berries. I have absolutely no idea what they are but I was taken aback by the colour. The camera used was my Ricoh GR1s - which will be accompanying Mrs LD and I to Sri Lanka on Monday. So, adieu for a couple of weeks - back on 07/12.

A few weeks of celebrating the coming of winter (mourning the summer actually). Alcahol content was a bit high in me but the NikonF3 is a brick that refuses to break on me even at crazy parties where this was shot on delta3200.

Hey hey! I'm in again. I took the Land Cam and some expired 125i film along with family on a trip to Battersea Park yesterday and had fun shooting (it's been a while). Unfortunately, everything came out pretty well overexposed; although it does have a certain charm to it nonetheless. The 'magic eye' was set right (and regulars here will know that I've been using this camera/film combo for a good few years now), so I'm wondering whether the variation came from the film stock or possibly a dying battery. Would a dying battery result in longer-than-desired exposure times?

I may find time to scan a couple of other snaps from yesterday.

Really like those skies in Phil's shot!

Would the well used, year old+ C41 chemicals in the garage cupboard still work?  Time to take a few test frames of the washing line (first photo).  Result: Good enough for me!  Time to work on the colour film backlog. Second photo is from this summer, Diana clone with some 1997 expired Konica 100 film.  Colours are as scanned.

After yesterday's over-exposed set I took the Land Cam out with me again today for an hour while the kids blew off some steam in a local park. I dialed the magic eye to a darker setting than I would have chosen normally for the fading, late autumn evening light and the results were much more even, albeit still a bit unconvincing. I think I need a new battery though...and this shot is a winner (to me at least), so I'm really glad I took the camera with me.
