Clearing Type 55's

So I took a trip down to Blacksburg to visit my brother and with me I brought along a box of 125i (peel apart), Polacolor Pro 100 4x5 (Type 79??) and a box of Type 55. 

This is the first time I've used any of my T55.  (I figure what am I waiting for? For all the chemical pods to dry up??).  I also had a lot of film, so I only got around to shooting 3 sheets of T55, but wasn't sure what you do when clearing in water.  I just rinsed them under a running faucet but they remain covered in blue.  Can I re-rinse?

yeah you can re-rinse them. just be gentle so you don't damage the emulsion. but i've even resoaked them to remove spots, etc.

I must agree, it features and amazing 3D feeling  :o is that a GraphicGraflex camera?

I normally clear my 665's in a bucket of sodium sulphite before washing.

You can either use a sodium sulfite solution, or just water. The sodium sulfite just shortens the time you need to soak it, but you have to wear gloves so you might be more likely to scratch them. I've never rewashed them after they've dried though. Just be gentle, and if you use the sodium sulfite rinse really well.

That first one is stunning, btw. Can you see through the lens to focus? Or was that kismet?

I ended up soaking and came back to find the water all blue and the negatives nice and clear.  Thank you for the compliment gothamtomato! Answering your question about seeing through the lens - oh hell-to-the-yes! I ground-glass focus  :)

This has come at a good time. I shot some 665 for the first time in years only a couple of months ago and got nothing at all in the way of a neg. I had my Sulphite crystals standing by, but opted for water. I obviously should have soaked 'em for longer. Will try again soon.

BTW, I'm assuming the same process hold for very expired Type 51? Soak for a long time. And yes, I mean Type 51, not Type 55. We established recently that Type 51 has the pos/neg too...well, I established that recently. A bunch of you had known it for years.

Interestingly, Ed, I've always found 665 to be very easy - the black backing comes off under a running faucet in one 'thin gummy piece'!  But I highly advocate (now) soaking in a tupperware of water.  Go do your thing, return and presto chango, negative!
