Easter Weekend Thread......
« on: April 22, 2011, 09:40:36 AM »
Haven't started one of these for a while, so here goes with an eclectic few shots from last weekend's trip over to the Cotswolds. All taken on M6TTL via 28mm Elmarit or 50mm Summicron on Kodak Tri-X

Hi Vicky.

I'm not a great one for car shows - a bit "Anoraky" for my tastes, but each to his/her own. The Ford Mustang club had an event planned at Waddesdon Manor near Aylesbury last weekend and we turned up on the same day by sheer chance. Interesting enough cars but give me a Porsche 911 GT3 any day! ;D

Love your portraits. The turquoise / blue of the background is a great foil for Sonia's dress but my favourite is the very intense portrait of Tim. That is just a masterly shot.

Great work all guys...

I love late developer's car pictures and vicky's portraits as usual are fantastic...
I'm enjoying Diane's 4x5 pinhole very much as well...

I have a few pictures from last tuesday at Crystal Palace park... there's going to be a fun fair and I managed snapping some pics before they set the whole thing...

First time using my Smena Cosmic, in fact I think I am the first one using the camera which is amazing condition! This is my third Smena and I love the lens in those cameras...

Such a lot of cool black & white.  I keep thinking I should shoot a roll or two of color now that it's springtime and the flowers are beginning to pop.  But I love b&w...

These are all Fomapan 100 souped in Rodinal and shot with the Ikoflex.

Great stuff here. I'm adding to the theme of buildings and shadows. It's funny how some of these threads develop themes within them. Will 8 - great start!

This is Pan Ha (pronounced Pan Haw) in Dysart, Fife; around 9 or so sea houses from the 17th Century that have been renovated by the National Trust. Salt panning used to be a thriving local industry, which possibly led to the name, although one of the houses was known to be an inn reserved for the captains of the ships that used to dock in the harbour.

LD, love the look of that Try-X, especially in the stair shot. Dreamy!
Vicky, both portraits are amazing!!
Daine, love the kitty!
Harvey, those ocean shots are fantastic, especially the second one!
Sapata, great images of the equipment before it gets setup! So different seeing it that way.
Sean, love your new shots, especially the second one with the little toy in it!
Terry, love that train shot, and the building with the tree shadows on it. Fantastic!
Will-8, you did an amazing job cutting those shapes out. I havent quite figured out your meaning yet but Im working on it.  :)
Karl, wonderful shot! Reminds of Bresson, but without the people.  :D

Here is mine. Thought I'd put up a desert shot for Sean.  ;D Polaroid chocolate taken with the Colorpack II

Paul - oh wow, those cracked pavers in the first shot and the soft glow from the windows in your last shot are like starting with and ending with dessert! :)

Vicky - I swear...  I want a book of all your portraits.  You make me shake my head in awe.  Both are spectacular and yet so different!

Harvey - the slower exposure of the 2nd shot is sooo swishy good!!

sapata - My favorite is that first one!  I've never heard of a Smena Cosmic!  I'm looking it up now...

Karl - I LOVE that shadow - shot!!

Ann, the Holga shots are lovely. Paul, I agree about those pavers. Vicky, whole heartedly agree with the others. And all the others. These weekend threads are such a treasure.

Still working through scanned in negatives and scanning more negatives this weekend. The first two images are from a Mamiya 645 Super and the B&W from an Ilford Sporti (really like this camera).

Lots of great new editions! Damion, your shots are glowing! And Pryan, WOW!!! Love all your shots but your woods shots are my favorites. Such a wonderful blending of blurred motion and crispy focus on the trees. And the color is fabulous! I feel like Im standing right there in the woods!

Ooh, a new series! Cant wait to see it develop HS. Couple questions though. How fast was the film for that second shot and what was your ap setting? I find it amazing that the light from the iPod is lighting her face so well and now I want to know how you managed that, and at the same time, avoid blowing out all the detail in lit buildings around her. Fantastic shot. I mean, really stellar, IMO.  ;D

Thank you.  For both shots I used Tri-X 400 pushed 1.5 stops (or 1 1/3 stops more specifically).  The light meter on my Mamiya 6 tends to overexpose things just a little bit (a good thing) and developed in Tmax dev 20C for 8 minutes.  I was shooting wide open which is f4 with the 50mm.

I brought the contrast down a very little bit because that painted ad on the building was a little too hot.  But not much, -2 on contrast in PS.

I like that the light meter on the Mamiya overexposes a bit.  That's how I like it.  I like shadow detail, generally not worrying about blown highlights.

couple of shots on my fresh pack of px-680 (which is the non spotty later stuff) the blacks are much nicer! whites still a little yellow but all in all an awesome dare i say it 'retro' looking film. cannot wait for this film to be on general sale!

also have some shots taken on a mamiya c220 TLR on the way but due to bank holiday they are not ready til tuesday :-( also the camera is a loaner from my friends uni so won't get to play with it it any more.

Heatwave in Yorkshire and days off school, is there any better combination for photography? I took the first of these on my Ensign Ful-Vue, the second on my Butchers Carbine both with Ilford Delta 100.

Well, it was WWPD, so I did shoot a roll through the Century Graphic equipped with a pinhole.  In spite of the weather being grotty, with wind and threatening rain all the time, things came out OK - I even managed to load the 6x9 back properly (I seem to have a personal problem with loading this - and only this).

I also shot a roll through the recently CLA'ed Weha Chrome Six - an all metal "tube" type folder with Super Ikonta style rotating wedge coupled rangefinder.  That roll is hanging up to dry now.

Here's the pinhole results:
