If there is anyone in or near Leipzig, there's a really great exhibition happening now until May 12.
It's called "LEIPZIG: FOTOGRAFIE SEIT 1839", and documents (mostly) local photography from the Daguerrotype through modern silvergelatine, C-type, and ahem... digital. If anyone is nearby though, it's more than worth a day-trip to check out.
The exhibition is divided into three separate installations (in three museums), beginning with 1839-1917 and the daguerrotype, kaliotype, ambrotype and others, then moving to 1918-1962 with primarily silvergelatine and some glass negative, and finally 1962 until present bringing the advent of color and finally digital photography.
It's a great overview of the origins of photography and all the steps it has taken to the modern day.
