Ye olde weakending threade...thee early 20s ov January.
« on: January 21, 2011, 05:58:02 AM »
I haven't started one of these things for awhile (I think I was the regular front man for awhile). Went to a local gallery opening tonight, took some Polaroids (Fuji 3000B). I have a show opening here March 17th, more info later. This is the guy who owns the gallery and was showing tonight. Good stuff!

Lovely images above. Wish I had been there.

Here's my two from last weeks trip to England. I met this man called John on the railway station at Highbridge, Somerset. When I sat down next to him on the only seat there was he leapt up and later he told me he thought I might be a lunatic !!
The boat snap - both snaps taken with a Petri7s and foma400@800 - Rodinal 1:100 - is in Bristol. It's the good ship Thekla where, as a kid I used to go and listen to bands and Viv Stanshall would often be sat in the corner with a glass [or two ] of red wine.

Glad to be back home on the island :-)

Andrea, I can promise you that the thought didn't pass through my mind, I was very relaxed  ;D I do like the shot of him though.

Sean, I agree that third one just looks great!
Andrea, I think is not the first I read that a filmwaster has been identified as a potentially dangerous person... is this a trend?  :P

From my side few Bleached POlas. Lately as I do not have much free time compared to previous sabbatical years I just bring the camera with me and shoot whenever I can. Of course camera is alway loaded with the wrong film. Low speed when I want fast speed, color when I want b&w... well. So shots from the bakery, the park when I am with the baby...  ::)

The weather here has been so dreary I've taken to still life shots to keep myself amused.   The 1st with the Calumet 4x5.  The second, just developed a roll from a couple of weeks ago (Leica M2, 125px pushed 2 stops) taking a stroll with a friend who is trying out her new M6...

Sean - I really like the second portrait of female - I find it very engaging.  Lots of rules/reasons might suggest that this shouldnt work but it does.

Some really lovely shots so far, love all the B&W especially.

Gonna have to pass again on weekend thread, just off to the hospital for an x ray as I appear to have broken a toe  :'(

Sad thing is there isn't anything to do with that... As long as the break is clean.

Great weekend so far, I just love the variety and thinking that goes into the pictures in these threads each week.
Following on from my snow snaps last week I thought I'd go with frosty this time. As before, all taken on the EOS 5 with Tri-X but given a little bit of blue to bring out the cold!

Here's Miss Scowl in all her glory at Battersea Park last weekend & the view from the Peace Pagoda looking out over the Thames. Land Cam 360 + 125i + coffee.

Leon, if Cliftonville is in Margate then you're correct !

I went for a day trip in March last year not knowing what It was... kind of expecting something like Brighton, but it's a very different place though.

Another excellent weekend thread!  Pryan's wintry shots of Albany make me want to go out and shoot some Ektar....

More snow shots from me too.  I have been working on a Graflex 22--partial strip-down, CLA and disassembly and cleaning of the lenses.  Got it collimated yesterday and took it out for a spin this morning while last night's snowfall was still fresh.  I noticed that nobody sees you when you're shooting a TLR; I guess it's the fact that you're looking down, but not one person seemed to notice or care that I was shooting.  Maybe it was just too cold for them to care!

Cliftonville is the next town along the coast from Margate - but to be honest, they all merge into one large mass of homeless hostels, Housing Benefit B&Bs and residential care homes once you get past Fort Hill, just along from Margate Harbour.

It certainly is a bit different to Brighton!  Our friend Collodion Carl knows the place well.

Leon ... you're right!

If it wasn't for the bunch of pictures I took on that day, the trip would've been a total fiasco ! It was very depressing and a bit of a shock to see what one day must have been a great place to spend the summer. Now it's a collection of abandoned hotels and restaurants... full of useless shops, very decadent.

Many wonderful shots this week.  I really like Sapata's car  :-)

This is my son from June, and printed last night.  I'm having challenges with fiber based papers, so I took a break and made an easy print on RC paper.  It was fun.

Love Sean's #3.

Scanned this shot this week - it is a test of the minimum focusing distance on a Leica Summicron Dual Range lens which has focusing down to 19 inches. (The normal range focuses to 3 feet 4 inches).

Voigtlander Vito II

Arista Premium 400, 7 minutes in HC110 (with very gentle inversions every 60s).

Thank you, Phil.

I'm going to have to decide between #2 and #3.  #3 seems to make people uncomfortable for a variety of reasons, but I kind of like that.  I think there's a lot of subtext that can be read into it, or maybe that's just me.  #2 has the same aesthetic but a more conservative take on it.  What do you think?

Color snaps! Ektar 100, which seems to be approaching Fortia SP for blues lately... From the GR1 too, which seems unfeasibly sharp even for its usual performance. Perhaps Fickle medium-size compression going on here, as the 1000 pixel scans look a little less crisp. Too sharp for me!

and one real photograph from The Goose too:

Nice work everyone. Except Damion, who must have left his lens cap on? Skj.
