getting a ricoh GR1 repaired in the UK
« on: January 06, 2011, 06:42:26 PM »
anyone know where I can send my Ricoh GR1 repaired in the UK?

*The lens extends and the focus works, but when I push the shutter button there are some faint, rapid clicking noises and the shutter won't open. Then the film advances fine. I've tried the camera on P, with different f-stops, on time exposure and other modes but the shutter won't open. It just makes very faint clicking noises. I also tried changing the battery - no help.*

If you have a broken GR1/s/v I would be interested in buying it for parts. Thanks.

Johnsons photopia http://www.johnsons-photopia.co.uk/  , the last distributers still fix the Ricohs.

Ive gotten my Gr1s back a few months ago having had the front window reattached and the lens extension sorted out.Its the second time in 10 years ive had to send it back .It was fairly straightfoward .Give them a call ,ask for the service/technical dept. ,send it off ,theyll send you a quote back and then see if its worth your while.
Your problems sound similar to the ones I had 5 years ago and it was fixable.

Just to update, the company seems to have been dissolved, so... i think the law of the internet means you are duty bound to find a replacement service and update this post with accurate information as soon as possible...please

Have you checked camerarescue.org
They're in Finland and I believe that they have a list of repair shops worldwide.

Film is the vinyl record of photography.

They no longer fix them in Japan.
Their parts are not supplied by Ricoh either...

A real pity, as the GR was possibly the best of type ever made!
