Pummelvision
« on: December 16, 2010, 03:57:51 PM »
Straight from the PhotoJojo newsletter (which Francois tipped me to a year or so ago) comes this fun-sounding application http://pummelvision.com

You need a Flickr, Twitter or Facebook account on the input side and a Vimeo or YouTube account on the output side...if that makes no sense then walk away  ;)

"Pummelvision — The Reason You’ve Been Taking Snapshots All This Time

Ever wished you could rewind your entire life and watch it again? Then you’ll love Pummelvision, the newest creation from Jake Lodwick, co-founder of Vimeo. Two clicks, and Pummelvision grabs every photo long buried in your Flickr, Facebook, or Tumblr, and gives you a breathtakingly beautiful, painfully poignant, and utterly simple video summary of your life. It’s remarkable.

It’s just a few minutes, but we dare you not to be moved as you relive old apartments, boyfriends, girlfriends, just friends, jobs… You might even cry."

I'm cooking a little video as I type. Will link to it when it's done.

Likewise! I like the line - DO NOT submit another job in another browser -- it will probably break something.

"... you might even cry."...

Something about that strikes me in a funny way.  I'd love to see some of the examples, but I'll pass on the risk of being made to cry, for now.  ;))

Mine's been baking for a good few hours at this stage. Still no sign of it. I'm guessing Monday sometime  :)

Phil, I saw yours on Vimeo and loved it...will be watching Sean's in a minute. Mine's pretty fun. Just Flickr stuff, but it's fascinating (to me at least): http://www.vimeo.com/17941582

Ed, yours is FAB! I think it is all the family shots in there that give yours a real heart and I can also see why yours took at age, that is a lot of photos.

Sean, yours is great too - everyone should do one.

I am in the process of changing the music in mine, haven't got it  right yet, but, working on it!

So much fun. Didn't realize it went through all my Flickr shots until I saw some blasts from the past.

Now I'll have to take another 1000 photos real quick just so I can make a new one.

Pummelvision: I dont get it.

I just find it really frustrating - it's too fast.  I want to see the pics.  I feel sea-sick.

Is it just me?

I have been editing mine and experimenting with lengthening the video so it's not quite as frantic. A little more time on each image, just a split second works quite well as well.

I too find the animation a bit simplistic. I think its power resides in the fact that it goes through all your Flickr images. and does it automatically.

I for one am so used to having animation that fits the music with plenty of motion and jump cuts that I find it a tad boring...

I think I'll keep the old way of doing things...
