Has anyone been to the polaroid site lately?
« on: December 12, 2010, 07:04:07 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has been to the Polaroid site lately?
While searching for drivers for Phil's new toy, I went there and what a change!

The new owners seem to realize that they can't run away from their heritage as an instant film maker. First, they gave their entire collection of prototypes and products to the MIT Museum; something I feel is a good thing. Besides lowering their income taxes, it gives the stuff a chance to survive.

And they also seem to be pushing the Pola 300 (which liiks exactly like the Instax Mini...). Also, they're showing a photoshoot on ultra large format film...

Anyways, some of it is quite entertaining.

I do realize that they are outsourcing everything and that things are not like they were... yet, I don't seem to care.

The allegedly have something new coming out in a month or so.

I heard the Lady Gaga cam was dead in the water but maybe they are going to time it to some release she is doing. Allegedly, she is actually a polaroid investor and has put up a couple of her own millions to make it happen.

Will go take a look. However, wasn't there some talk here previously of how the Pola 300 was quite literally a re-badged Instax and that neither party was claiming otherwise?

Just by looking at it, if it ain't a re-badged Instax, I'll eat my socks!

They have a nice video of a guy who documented L.A. using a crown graphic and what looks like some PN film.

i noticed about six months ago that polaroid put the instant film info back up on the site. for awhile all they had was pogo pages, but now you can view all of the film types and many of the cameras again. i guess someone decided that the polaroid legacy means something, at least as far as market identity.

I just saw a thread on that on flickr. I may have to go visit the MIT Museum since I'll be in the area...

You lucky girl!

Boston is a great city!
Only thing is that it's so easy to get lost in there... the city doesn't follow the traditional grid we're so accustomed to.

But now, since they did the Big Dig (Central Artery Project), things should be much better.

Also, bring the camera. Lots of beautiful buildings there.
