I have no idea how I did this......
« on: December 08, 2010, 07:54:22 PM »
I just picked up a roll of 120 XP2 400. Well within date and, as far as I can recall, I didn't open the back on my Hassy or anything and I didn't allow the film to come unwound. Anyway, this is all that's salvageable from a truly wasted roll of film....

Shot on a bleak day recently at a little greasy-spoon cafe at the quayside in Maldon, Essex.

I really am not the best to comment, but, it does look like issues I had with loose rolled film or at least light being allowed in at some stage!

Hi Phil.

Yes, I agree. I just don't know how. Frankly, I'm not that bothered, it's just the first time I've had a true "wasted" moment. It was a freezing cold day and I'm not discounting the fact that I probably didn't load the film 100% as well as I usually do - but this has sort of caught me on the hop...

I'll probably just bin the negs and move on.

I'm not sure this is just a loosely rolled film. The uneven exposure at the bottom of number 3 suggests there's something else going on. Also, the fogging seems too even to be just light leaks at the edge of the film.

My bet is this happened either in camera or during processing. Did you process it?

I'd, at least, put another film through the camera and waste it on something unimportant before moving on - just to make sure it's not a camera fault.

Hmmm... gosh, sometimes frustrating when these 'surprises' occur.  I was wondering if this could be something with the light traps in whatever film back you were using.

If maybe it was a loose backing:

Do you have one of those little windows in the back that allows you to read the frame number?  If so is it still covered with that red plastic?  If so are you using panchromatic film that is sensitive to red?

my best guess....

I'm sure I've seen this before in regards to film backs and hassies(is that the right plural  ???) - check APUG threads for light leaks and film backs... I forget exactly what they said causes it and how to fix it but it looks like a similar problem to what I've seen them discuss before.

given your previous posts from your 'blad, unless this was a different film magazine, I'd say it's a developing error and not a camera malfunction.  The next roll will be telltale.
