Snow!
« on: December 04, 2010, 09:44:39 AM »
It snowed! Yay!
And it was only here for one magical day before it lost that soft perfection when it's freshly fallen.
So I took Snowy the dog for a walk and took some pics....(Snowy is pretty much deaf and blind except for close up-ish so I made an idiot of myself shouting "snowy" in the middle of the park as he kept attatching himself to random families :)

These are a few of the pictures, please add yours too, new or old, I can't get enough of them.

Great stuff! I guess I'll have to take my Colorpack II to the christmas market today. Maybe there's some snow I can take a picture for you :)

Thanks :)
I'm envious of all those that have regular falls, though I'm sure the novelty wears off.
Ours has all gone in the last hour of rain.

Urban, a snowy christmas card even...?

Happy to say this morning that you're not the only ones with snow on your mind. Currently, we're having a light sprinkling of the white stuff. Feels a bit like being on a cake getting covered by confectioner's sugar :)

Hope you did take time to go sledding (best sleds are rigid and slick on the bottom...)

Maybe. I didn't manage to go out today and I only have 5 shots left and no more pack film (I promised to use the film in the fridge first ...). But I might be more lucky tomorrow.

Vicky-I'm in for this!  It snows fairly often here in the mountains of New Mexico, so next time we get some nice powder I'll be sure to go out and make some shots to share.

BTW- Francois,  "Feels a bit like being on a cake getting covered by confectioner's sugar"  is the best description I've heard of snowfall.

I love, love when the snow is falling!  Such a cheerful ambiance, always!   Even with last February's "snowpocalypse" that left us with almost 5 feet in 2 wks, I enjoyed it while it fell (but hate the chore of snow removal).

Your images exude that 'oh yay! it's SNOWING!' ambiance.   Fantastic set Vicky!  :)

Superb set of images Vicky. Your style certainly captures the best of this type of scene.

The one of the lad reminds me of my childhood and the snowball fights I'd get into and only emerge from when my parents insisted and just before frostbite and hypothermia set in  ::)

We've had a week of the stuff over here in East Anglia and, although I'm sort of glad to see the back of the commuting / transport chaos it creates, I'm always glad to see it back again. It's good to see proper winters - dark, dank months of never-ending rain just don't do it for me...

Aw, thanks chaps.
We just have fog all day now, not the same at all :)

Ansel's snowy pictures were the first ones I fell in love with,  so quiet you can feel it.
Also enjoyed Harry Callahan's too, though it's the tourism type holiday scenes of the 50's? that I'd rather make.

Look forward to seeing yours :)

Ahh! Snow...
Yesterday, the forecast was for a nicely decorative 2cm of white fluff.
This morning when I woke up, it was more like 20cm... and where the wind blew it a bit more, it was knee height! And best of all, it's still coming down...

I guess we'll have a white Christmas after all...

I did take the time to shoot some FP100 around the yard. Lost two prints because the film didn't come out straight between the rollers (grrr). But still, got two presentable shots out of the old Colorpack II

It's kind of hard to walk around making sure your tracks won't be visible in the picture :)

here in Ireland we have had snow for nearly 2 weeks which is
extremely rare for this time of year and is some sort of weather record!

I went out with the 5x4 last week in the snow.  It was on Wednesday - before the real stuff came down, so it doesn't look much in these. It got much worse - another 10 inches or so, then temps soared on saturday and half of it went overnight.  Still a lot around around, but more ice than snow now.

Great shots Leon! Love them both for different reasons. I find myself amazed at all those auto tracks in an open field that doesnt appear to have any reason for autos to be driving in it. And the second one I love for its minimalism. All that snow at the bottom and just a thin line of trees at the top. Gorgeous!

Urban - go for it !

I might well do that. I just remembered why I didn't do it before: I wanted to do it the analog way, i.e. make a contact print with several negatives. As I don't have the time and the paper, developer, etc. right now that has to wait.

I think the cold snap is hitting a large portion of the world right now.  We had flurries (only) on Monday - the perfect ambiance when I went to the Christmas tree farm to chop down my 9 ft. frasier fir.  :)

Phil - It has to be the 2nd image for me

aoluain - wonderful technique

Leon - Both would look very nice hanging on my wall!

This always smells so good inside the house!

Like for the last few years, I'll probably have to go for the 1960's vintage plastic alphabetical fake tree...  :-\
