Woot ! The Weekend 15/10
« on: October 15, 2010, 05:48:40 PM »
Kicking off with some 50+ year old 127 that came with the unused Coronet 4-4.  I used the same chemicals as I'd used for a roll on efke R100 that I put through the Eastman Bullett as I didn't think the picture I took would actually come out.  The negs are very foggy.

And this is what came out ... I rather like it.

Having a beer before seeing Ed thrash out some Dad Punk at the Carpenter's Arms.

Miles, I really dig these - will you be singling any out for a larger view, they demand to be seen larger!

I've been having a play with negs from one of the first rolls I put through my Hassy 500c/m when I got it earlier this summer. I haven't cropped anything but I've run them through Lightroom2 and applied a preset which adds a bit of drama.

The first one is a mystery to me. This was probably when I was winding the film on as it's frame 1. Still I quite like abstracts, even if they are complete flukes like this...

I'm jealous of you guys with the Hasselblads  ;D

Those are all wonderful..

Late Dev - the first one is amazing.. my favourite.. although I'm a bit of a sucker for doggies too..

Phil - I'm sick of you and your perfect shots  ;D

Miles - I'd like to see those larger too.. I can't quite make out what they are but they're really interesting..

Mine's Holga & expired Portra 400VC from the circus graduation show I attended recently.

Gregor - I know how that toe feels. Done this a couple of times. As for a title, how about "Bed of Nails"?

Miller - Fantastic colours and a lovely angle.

It is a camera that I find difficult to shake. I have many others, but, I cannot go anywhere without it. I enjoyed shooting wide with 35mm, but, this camera is like a dream. I have been trying wean myself onto other cameras, but, it is tricky!

If it's working for you, why wean yourself? Just keep at it.

I had the chance to get one a few years ago, from a guy who kept all his equipment in mint condition, for $2800, but was I too worried about the money to get it, so he sold it to someone else. I have kicked myself ever since. I am an idiot.

It was odd on a recent trip. Having used the SWC almost exclusively for about 4 years I took along my 501cm which obviously needed me to manually focus and had an 80mm lens rather than 38mm - well, it took me a week to get my head around it!

Cheers All.

@ Phil - You are king of the big sky

@ Late D - Really like the tree

@ Suzi - Agree, the 50's feel makes me smile (the strips are of Bankside, Tate Modern etc and other stuff)

@ Beck - You seem to be able to make a Holga do anything

I need to do a proper scan on those old 127 strips, I masking taped them to an old flatbed without a backlight as I only have a 35mm scanner and even with my homebrew mask it still crops the buggers when using 127.

I even tried putting my lightbox ontop of the old scanned bit that didn't work either.

Just back from the pub watching Ed and "Billy No Mates" thrashing out some Punk.  My ears are ringing a tad, but then I am of that age now ...

Hi Miles.

Love the Eastman Bullett and Canterbury Cathedral shots. The others are damned cool but the top two are different class IMO.

Miles

I has some success scanning larger negs on my old flatbed scanner, using a light (desk lamp with paper diffuser on negs) source as a back light but found I had to disconnect the internal scanner light other wise it competed with the back light.  It also added some interesting textures.

The contacts style image and quality makes them look like the are decade old.

Phil don't listen to them I love your images.  I'm just jealous that you have found a wonderful source of pictures in your abandoned images.

LD If you could reproduce this effect you could have a good series photo's.  It does look like the typical mistake. Great Set.

Suzi  This is a great capture, must have been a good show. I would love to see some more.  Some years ago I tried to take some B&W images at a school play and know how difficult, even using HP5 rated at 1600.

Gregor How about four toes, one nail.  Will be an interesting series I sure.

Miller Love the tones in this, I'm really going to have to look using colour film again sometime.

Beck Love these particularly the first, you appear to have found a sweet focus spot for this. Whether by design or accident.

Mine were taken during a walk in the park with the kids, are these street photography or park photography.  The third one was taken about an hour after the first two as the kids dictated where we went.

@ Miles - Love the last image posted... I know the area well but not as pictured...

@ Suzi - Reminds me of the classic 1950's film Trapeze starring the late Tony Curtis and Burt Lancaster. Not to mention one of the hottest women to ever walk the earth, Gina Lollobrigida who is the inspiration behind the Gina shoes brand... Loves me some expensive heels...  ::)

@ Happyforest - Feels like I'm snooping and about to be arrested looking at your shots... I too was a heavy black/white user back in the day but got converted to the 'colourside' due to Polaroids/Fujiroids and colour slides.

@ Wavebeat - Killer lines and differing contrasts on the first shots...

@ Roman - Nice first shot and could it be restored and hot-rodded...  ;)

And down with Zero 2000's and SWC's, I hate them with a passion. The scourges of photography and I'll happily dispose of them for you...    ;D

@ Paul Mitchell.

Paul, has nobody ever told you that you don't put the subject matter in the middle of the shot? Do you mean some one bought that?  ;) Seriously, that is one beautiful picture. What I've never understood about pinhole, is how on earth you get the image composed. It's an inexact science at the best of times but shots like that - without even the decency to use a lens - put my feeble attempts into the shade. Worse still, the "photo" I produce as a mis-fire while rolling the film on is better received than the ones where I get the light meter out, select an appropriate lens, set the camera up, focus and take the shot. Life just ain't fair. I'm off for a sulk.

@ Phil Bebbington.

That's a peachy and colourful shot. Lovely, subtle feel to it and gorgeous light.

@ Roman.

Fantastic images using an iconic medium. Not sure how much Kodachrome you have left but spend it wisely. It'll be a pity when it's gone and the lab will no longer have the soup into which to dip it.

Ha ha! that's the beauty and excitement of it, it's not knowing what you've got until you unravel the still wet film from the spool. For what it's worth my negative file is bulging with all the one's that didn't work.

So many good images, one that stand out for me are the ones from miles from the old coronet, Suzi's shot from the circus and  also the red mannequin shot, Millers boat, Paul's shot of the tree, Wavebeat couple kissing. And of course the colours of Phils first shot -so warm.
Lots of others too, but those stand out for me.

Mine is a Trichromic process HP5+

There's more to this photography thing than meets the eye.

Phil… the colours on your pictures are simply amazing !

Miles, the result with the expired film is great, I’d love to see some of those pictures bigger on the screen

Paul… I love the tree shot, the foliage on the foreground is very delicate and it’s a perfect contrast to the tree.

Diane… great view and picture from the rooftop, I love the cloudy sky.

Another wonderful weekend - great shots everyone. I got a roll of colour (fuji superior) back from the developers (shot through a minolta zoom auto point and shoot, and I developed a roll of polypanf (kindly donated by Andrea) in Rodinal from the OM10. I also developed my first ever rolls of 120 (which Andrea will scan for me as I only have a 35mm scanner - so you will have to wait to see the results)

sapata  This is a lovely set.  I have visions of a shapely pair of legs appearing over the side of the bed in the last one.

Windy love the first and last of the black and white ones.  The sea seems calm, almost the calm before the storm and I really like the sky in the last, despite the light leak.

I went to the Rhode Island School of Design Museum this morning to look at the very beautiful 8x10, gold toned, contact prints of pictures of sacred places by Linda Connor:

I had my Brownie Hawkeye loaded with a roll of 35mm Tri-X which I developed in Xtol.  Here are two views from the museum window.

I love clouds in the tri-chrome filters. Hoping to get some colour gels soon, maybe I'll try some of those soon.

This is kind of my only favourite picture so far from my World Toy Camera Day weekend pics

most were pretty underexposed (it was quite dark up in Edinburgh that weekend). And my one roll of d3200 i shot rolled fat and I squeezed it while trying to tighten it up so that's probably mostly ruined. Sigh. Need some microphen for that.

Wow great stuff!!!

pryan9 - what film did you use for the color shots? They're gorgeous!

Late Developer - I love every single one of your images here!

And Sapata - that 2nd one is the bestest!  :)
