fogging?
« on: September 23, 2010, 08:18:09 PM »
i recently turned my dead holga(one of the older 120N models) into a pinhole camera. i shot a test roll without the mask in the camera(something i never did when it still had a lens). about three shots have this fogging, but i'm not sure what is causing it. any ideas? i've posted one of the fogged shots along with a shot that looks pretty much fine. also any idea what is causing the strange rectangular patch like bits on either side of the image? i'm thinking there may be something i need to tape up inside the camera, but i'm not sure what exactly. thoughts?

Looks like there might be some flare caused by internal reflections— matt black paint would help.
I thought fogging was supposed to be part of the Lomo charm?

did you tape up the inside "holes"?
http://www.squarefrog.co.uk/troubleshooting/light-leaks.html has a better diagram/picture to explain what i mean.

though looking at the examples and looking at the holes, that doesn't make too much sense. the light leaks would have to come from underneath to be at the top of pictures (images are upside down when projected onto the film)  ???

i was thinking this may be it too. i may need to use a sharpie to darken the back of the tinfoil pinhole.

yeah, those seem to be different leaks compared to what i'm getting. it doesn't seem to be very consistent either which confuses me.

I use to tape the inside of my holga (damn loose batteries) nowadays I never use a mask. works good for me.

one time I took out the tape and batteries and got plenty of lightleaks pretty much like yours. I think they're a bit easier to recognize on colour film. (example below)
