Somewhat trippy...
Reminds me of a bug's eye view.
What's weird about that is that it could make lenses much simpler... use a computer chip to decipher everything. But I guess it wouldn't work on film :(

what I couldnt understand is if there is an actual lens involved, or if there is a computer emulation going on ... is this a photoshop filter you can apply to any image/ neg scan, or does the raw image file have to be taken using a camera with this compound lens/ sensor thing?

it is fascinating though - the idea of choosing which part you want in focus ... but a digi matter none-the-less and not something for here I suppose.  Or is it?  If it's something that can be applied to film scans by way of an image editing software filter, then we are fine ... I think.

I think the system uses a lens array (like in bug vision) to take multiple pictures of the same subject (like in the 100's of pictures). Then the software can calculate the difference between them, generate an image and calculate the depth of field which can then be varied and changed with sliders. This could allow for very flat cameras since focus probably isn't an issue (short focal length).

It's a bit like the old 3D nimslo camera... but on a 2D image. This probably wouldn't apply to film since so much post processing is required.

Interesting technology none the less...

so - to answer my question, you need a special camera as well as the software - this isn't a photoshop filter?

You're right Leon, it's a bit off topic I suppose - - has to be digital post processing done at some point.   :)

To answer your question : You need a special lens (which is like a bug vision, lots and lots of tiny lenses next to each other) and then you need their software to calculate the final image, for which you can choose the focus.

I like the concept of taking the picture without focusing and choosing later. Could be great for very fast snaps, like photojournalism and street photography. Too bad it's digital ;)
