Mike Butkus & Camera Manuals?
« on: August 31, 2010, 02:56:40 AM »
Hi all. I've used Mike Butkus and his free PDF camera manual site for a few years now, and was wondering if anyone else did as well? I was thinking of adding him to the Resources section. Particularly as some other sites appear to be reselling his free stuff?

http://www.butkus.org/chinon/

Not spending much time on internet stories, did not know the story behind this. Anyone else? Free can only be good right? Skj.

Hi Skorj, Prior to acquirig the ¨real¨ manuals I downloaded the electronic ones from the website. The info was very useful as viewing the manual helped me decide for one camera or not.

Great resource!  Can't believe some
******'s would sell them on.   Some people....  I say chuck it in the resource section,  maybe we could drop him a line to ask permission?

I've used his site on a few occasions and could not believe my luck especially with my Yashica 12.

You can drop a donation and considering that many charge for a photocopy on EBay he's a blessing.

For vintage vinyl related equipment I use Vinyl Engine but they rely on owners submitting their manuals to the site and that works well. M.B. on the other hand appears to source the manual himself which surprised me.

I've used him and donated a few times.

I detest these people making money from from manuals as they never own the copyright so much so that any manual or document I get my hands on gets published on my scribd site for anyone else to get for free. Mostly these are service manuals and mostly relating to Contax items but I have a few others on there as well.

My scribd site is at http://www.scribd.com/people/documents/14278529-peter-robinson?page=1.

That sounds fairly unanimous I've used him as well and made a couple of donations it's a great resource.

Peter - I second your comments about people selling copies of his work on ebay. It's a shame there's not some way to highlight it to buyers.

For me, it's always the first place to go look for a manual. Then, I go to Kyphoto. If I can't find anything there, then I know I'll have to look hard.

I use his site and have donated in past.  A worthy resource and one that needs supporting, not ripping off  -scallywags.
