can't leave home with out what camera?????
« on: July 15, 2010, 09:06:32 PM »
Since it holiday and vacation time for a lot of us, I was just wondering what your favorite travel cameras are?

I like my waist level Holga and various pinholes, plus an OLY XA, and a Vivitar Ultra Wide and Slim.   :)

anyone else have an absolute favorite they won't walk out the door without???   ???

My go-to camera these days seems to be my Leica M5 with a 35mm lens attached.  It changes though, for the longest time it was a Nikon F5, then I played with XA's for awhile.

It depends if I want to go out light or not.
For the heavy setup, definitely Nikon F-601 with all lenses and doubler (except the 50mm mirror).
For the light travel, I'm pretty fond of the Instax 100.

I know I've got tons more I should go out with more often. That nice old Voigtlander comes to mind...

It's funny, but since I started using my Tachihara 5x4, I've pretty much stopped using any other cameras. Prior to that I'd have taken a Polaroid Land Cam 360 and a Ricoh GR1s, but since I started with the 5x4 I pretty much never travel with any camera other than the one on my phone.

I do long to start using my Pentax K-mount SLRs again and also my Bronica SQ-A, but I have to face facts and at the moment there is no time in my life for anything which requires more than 60 seconds processing time. So it's the Tachihara and whatever instant film I have lying around.

I carry my Holga with me every day to work. Mainly because it is light - if I'm not working then I would always have the Hasselblad SWC with me along with another camera that varies according to mood.

Just came back from a few days away and I only took the Minolta Hi-Matic F with me. It's fast becoming my default for travelling.

i don't mind walking out the door without one anymore, i've realised i'm not so good at the impulsive shots.
having said that there's a holga in my bag now because i want to finish the film ...but usually if i see something out then i wsh i had the hassy with me.

These days I keep my favorite Kodak Brownie Starmatic and in the bag and then rotate something new every week or so.  Currently it's an Ansco Viking.  The real difficulty is finding the right bag...

Right now I don't go out much ;) But when I do it's either the Minolta X-300 with the 50mm f/1.4 or the Yashica Mat. If I'm just out for groceries it's either the LC-A or the Voigtländer Vito II depending on which one has a film in it.

Recently I've had in my bag a Holga 120N, 135BC and an Olympus Trip 35.  If I don't have a bag then I'll have an XA2 in my pocket, this is usually my camera of choice but I decide to go cold turkey a week ago as other cameras need an outing.

I'm off on holiday next week and the XA2 is waiting in the bag.

it has to be small and possible to take it in my pantpocket ( pantpocket is that a word ? ) so there is  a Minox 35 or the last few months a Balda ca 35, on ( motorbike) holidays always a folding midformat cam too. on serious holidays ( car ) its 7,5 kilo's all kinds.... ( i can hear the woman complaining already...)

Either the Canon A1 or the Canon F1-N with a 50mm lens. And I think the same goes when travelling-working-abroad. I would like to bring with me the medium format ones but with the 35mm I can always wear it with me in a belt-bag.

My Leica IIIF with a 1938 50mm Elmar (bought dented so I don't spend my tyrips worrrying about it.)
The only camera to have never ever ever let me down.

I got the M2 to be THE only camera I would ever want to use ever as I had wanted to own one for years... somehow though, it doesn't cut it compared.

It's purely psychological i'm sure.

During daily travel (I bike to work) I take with me my 1950s Ensign Selfix which is a 645 folding camera.
It takes wonderful pictures with its sharp Ross Xpress lens, I keep B&W loaded in it.

A great British camera smaller than a Leica
If I'm going to the beach I take my Nikkormat with a 50mm F2 HC loaded with Fuji 200, any other time it will be a Rolleiflex which I just love for people pics.

Oly Trip 35, then sometimes FED4 or Yash 44 if the bag is big.

At the mo though it's a Chaika 3 and soon to be a Zorki-10 (I hope).

I usually carry two for unplanned outings or travel when I know I'll be walking a lot and larger cameras will be too much to carry: my Diana 151 and a Zeiss Ikon 523/16 6x6 folder in my bag. Both nice and light, relatively speaking to my other MF cameras.

I cant really talk about my recent general go-everywhere camera here as it comes from the light-side.  But when I'm of out for a serious shooting-film excursion, i dont travel light: Holga, 6x6 slr and 5x4 field camera travel with me and I choose which by the subject.

I`m with Vicky on this one, no longer feel the need to ALWAYS be ready to shoot. When I do feel in the mood, I`ll go out with my Billingham f1.4 loaded with the Nikon F6, 17~35 f2.8 and / or 35~70 f2.8 `n some Tri-X and Reala. Or, once again when I`m in the mood, I`ll go HEAVY with the Nikon F4s. Then again, if I`m feeling ready for a challenge, it`ll be the dinky OM1 `n Vivitar Series 1 28 f1.9. But at the end of the day, they`re only tools to do the same job, so whatever takes your fancy, go forth and waste some film :-)

if i'm travelling, i usually take the holga 120N, the brownie hawkeye flash, and the diana plus some assortment of matchbox pinhole cameras. You could probably add the fujipet to that selection as well. i may also bring along something small like the vivitar ultrawide & slim. if it's just a day trip somewhere i may bring one of my instant film cameras, but as they are a bit more bulky they often get left at home unless they are the main focus that day.

Like Skorj and Ed its a Ricoh GR1 filled with Neopan 1600 in the winter and Fuji Acros for the three weeks of our so called summers.  Sometimes take a GR21 with me but it cost me a small fortune and seems such a delicate creature with its pokey-out lens and temperamental LED that I am scared of just keeping it a coat pocket or in the car dash in case it gets knocked or picks up grollies and dies on me.

I don't really have "the" camera to take when I go out, usually whatever camera (and that it's a toy and a non toy camera) I have the film inside and suitable for the weather conditions... Lately it's been my Leica IIIF and a Tru-View Diana clone.

Now, when I'm traveling everything changes as I try to select a bit of everything and trying to be as light as possible at same time (...by doing this I do take more time to pack than my wife !! :o ). My compact LCA it's always in the bag though, it's the easyest to carry and very versatile.

My Nikon F3 is usually glued to me, but a light travel camera I love is my Smena Symbol. Small portable and takes crisp pictures :)

Hi there, im a noob to the forum and thought i would say hello and put in my two cents here.

I ALWAYS used to leave home with my Viv UWS tucked in my pocket usually with some sort of slide film loaded for x-pro, and do often use it still however i recently recieved my fully refurbished (thank you Roger Lean, lomo legend) Lomo LC-A so that goes everywhere with me. on weekends i will ALWAYS have my Rolleicord I model 1 in my bag usually with some velvia 50 for x-pro (as that is all i have bought, not entirely sold on it tbh) but i will try some black and white through it soon. Any recomendations btw? i always use ilford FP4 or HP5 but feel like trying something new.

I also take my Yashica TL-Super out a hell of a lot at the moment, always with FP4 or HP5 in it and with the only M42 lens i have which is the 50mm 1.7f that came with the camera.

Sometimes when im feeling saucy i take out one of my brownies with some 35mm in for some sprocket hole fun :-P

sorry for the essay, im a bit pent up with camera agression as i have only had flickr to vent it on. NOW I HAVE FILM WASTERS YAY! ;D

My M6 with the old Canon 35mm comes most places with me.

Though working away during the week I keep my Rollei P&S in the car for the occasional snatch shot.
