Lensbaby Muse/Nikon N55
« on: July 13, 2010, 01:19:05 PM »
I need help. I won this Lensbaby Muse from Curious Camera. I pretty much know that these lenses fit most high end DSLR cameras...but not the Nikon N55 I have here. Much to my surprise, it fits. I'm not sure if it's going to actually work as far as exposure and so on. When I look through the viewfinder, I can see the effect when the lens is manipulated. That's about as far as I've gotten with this rig.

I'd be stoked if it works....but not sure what mode, etc., to use for taking pictures. Can anyone throw around some tips? I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks...

Hi Becky!
I'm not very familiar with the N55 (I have the same as an N6006)... But unless Nikon did some magical work with your camera, it will work.

The lens being most probably not computerized, the camera will revert to either center weighted or spot mode metering (center weighted is the default, spot is a choice, matrix is disabled).

Also, since the aperture system doesn't use the little rotating lever around the lens mount or the aperture lever inside the camera, the lens will be full manual aperture.

You'd be surprised at how many lenses actually work with the old Nikons!
I tried out of curiosity to put a modern DSLR lens on my old Nikon. Except for the extreme vignetting at wide angles, I did get almost everything working on it... I wasn't impressed by the results but still liked the fact it fit on it.

So, nothing to worry about there. Just stick it on and shoot away :)

Nice prize by the way... you're lucky.

You know, I read Beck's post and I thought, this is a post for François - scroll down and it was so - some things don't need messing with.

François, always be there, please!  ;D

Don't worry people!
And with the amount I spent this morning at the camera store, I'm not about to go anywhere fast :)

(and I still wonder how I got suckered into buying a Super Sampler... either has to do with those nice colors or the fact my fortune cookie last night told me something shiny was in my future :) )

If the Super Sampler's the one with the drawstring film advance...just be gentle with it. Mine lasted about 2 films before it exploded. This was 8 years ago and I can only assume build quality will have deteriorated as the prices have risen.

Don't worry, with anything this plasticky, I am careful!
It is the drawstring one... that comes with a 1 year warranty (for what it's worth :) )
The Diana Mini is probably the most cheap feeling thing I have... can't be worse.
