Nobody ever "happens" to come up north even though we have the best Smoked Meat and Bagels in the world...

We've had this conversation before, but I can vouch for the quality of Montreal bagels!

I have real hankering to go to New York at the moment! I've never been. I'd love to spend a week or so and do some street photography. It's one of my 'before I'm too old' things.

(have to make do with Portland later this year.) We are changing in Vancover if that helps, Francois!

Sorry... I can't afford the 1200$ plane ticket (flying in Canada is ridiculously expensive)

It's the water; ergo, bagels are Brooklyn. It's as simple as that.

If you make it to Chicago, then you could go on that classic Route 66 road trip... for the first few miles, you could blast Depeche Mode's Route66/Behind the wheel remix  ;D
(I feel Damion is probably a very big Depeche Mode fan  ;) )

I could make it--suggest Caffe Reggio on Macdougal Street (in the Village) in preference to Midtown though.

I too could make it.  Not sure of a Mid-town spot, but for great coffee I'd recommend Gimmee, (http://www.gimmecoffee.com/)  They have a location in Nolita at 228 Mott st. btwn Prince and Spring.  Could also check out the Impossible Project's space in Soho.

I'll be in town, arriving around Penn Station around 12 noon.  I'm meeting my model for a shoot, but I'd love to squeeze in a coffee or smoothie as the case may be.

It probably makes sense to find a place near Penn Station then...but please not Starbucks!  Anyone know a good coffeehouse in Chelsea?

If by coffeehouse you mean a place that has beer and the World Cup final on, there's Half King at 505 W. 23rd, near 10th Ave.

Oooo!  A visit to NYC is incomplete w/o a stopover in Caffe Reggio.   Wish I could be in town that week!

If you're there on the 14th, stop by the Lincoln Center for Emir Kustirica's No Smoking Orchestra show. I'm seriously considering flying in for a day just for that!

And if a west coast tour is in the works and Seattle is in the plan, we'd be happy to visit & give you lodgings :-)

OK! With two votes, does Caffe Reggio (at 119 MacDougal Street) sound viable then? Assume a table for four or more would be available, and not too many Lomo-toting Hipsters about (if so, we can give 'em a smack for our Ed)... 14:30 to give a few enough time to make it from various places?

Who's in? If so, I will see you there! Skj.

Hipsters? New York? I think you may spend all your time smacking and not enough time drinking coffee and talking if you take that approach, Skj. Although the sentiment is much appreciated.

By then I should be shooting Winter in Queens, but if we get started slow and aren't yet out of Manhattan, we'll try to drop on by.

I can be there earlier if needed! Not wanting to compromise a shoot of course. I am after all on vacation... Skj.

14:30 works fine for me--just time enough to furl my jib.  I won't bring a Lomo but I will bring my nice 'new' Pentacon 6 that Diane sold me....

We're cool.  Shoot got pushed to a 4:00 start so I can meet you all 2:30-3:30ish.  Reggio, right?

It goes without saying, but we expect to see a few snaps of the gathering and a report on the quality of Reggio's coffee over and above Starbucks'. Have a great time everyone.

It was great to meet.  I was so energized, I easily kept awake the the 4 hour drive home and developed two rolls of 127 when I got there. ...or was that the coffee? Thanks .
