"The third video podcast from the Filmwasters features a tutorial on how to rescue a serviceable negative from Fuji's wonderful FP-100C instant film & a stylin' rainy day project from Francois about pimping your camera strap.

Featuring Ed Wenn, Damion Rice & Francois Laverdure."

http://filmwasters.com/podcast

UPDATE: Thanks to Miller for documenting the process which we ended up following for the neg reclaim section. Lots of different takes on this online, but we kept it in the family and went with his because it made sense to us and was easy to follow.

Already in the can for episode 4 we have contributions from Ailsa, an interview with Mijonju over in Tokyo, a tutorial from Leon & more from Francois. It'll be online in a week or two, but in the meantime, enjoy episode 3.

Cheers, Vicky. I'm sure you'll take the process somewhere new and I can't wait to see what you end up making.

As a general note it's worth pointing out that these tutorials are really just meant as starting points. It's laughable to think that Big D and I have the final word to say on anything to do with photography and so there are probably loads of tweaks and improvements to be made.

When you make them though be sure to drop back here and tell us about them.

For instance thanks to Formica for pointing out in an email to me earlier today that the neg reclaim process works just as well for the b/w Fuji film, FP-100B.

Ed....loved the podcast...was thinking that if you and Mr. Rice ever decide to give up photography you might take that act you have going "on the road"..great comedic work there!...but seriousely..thank you for the excellent tutorial on reclaiming the fuji negatives! :) :)

Cheers Diane. We do have a lot of fun filming these things so I'm glad some of that comes across in the finished article. One point to correct you on though; Damion and I gave up photography a long time ago. Right before we started actually.

Any chance of a downloadable version in some old, plays on any old PC, type format. My ageing PC is having problems playing it online and I've got nothing that will play .m4v files.

I did try converting it but my converter, which is supposed to handle .m4v files, didn't recognise it.

Peter, if you run Firefox, get the DownloadHelper add-on. All you have to do is start the video playing online, press the icon on your toolbar and select the file to download. The file is standard MP4. Since it plays without any streaming, you should get better performance.

Also, you can download the K-Lite Codec Pack from http://www.codecguide.com/download_mega.htm
which contains just about every codec you should ever need.

There's also the SMPlayer (videohelp.com/tools) which is a stand-alone player with built-in codecs that can be used if you don't want to have shared codecs installed (like on a work machine)

Watching the video, I come to a conclusion:
Damion is getting better and better in front of the camera... congrats.

And have a few questions:
Did Ed's wife kill Big Bird to serve him for dinner?
Is there going to be feathers in the next podcast?
Do you need some tar to go with the feathers?

I know I could go on and on...

I know for one that I always like seeing outdoor shots. When I show the podcast to non-photographer friends, they always like these shots too. It's a different way to visit than Google Streetview or the tourist guides we see on TV.

Also, choosing to shoot in the elevator is a wise choice... much less dangerous than escalators... ::)

Peter, if none of Francois' excellent and sensible suggestions works for you then get back to me & I'll upload a version which should be compatible with older Windows computers. I'd do this as a matter of course if it weren't for the fact that the older file types tend to result in a much larger file. I'll see if I can squash an MPEG or AVI for you.

Hey, hang on I've just realised that you should be able to go here http://vimeo.com/11853175 and click on the "Download this video" link to the bottom right of the video window to get hold of the original Window Media Player file that I uploaded to Vimeo. Make sure you do it in the next few days though because after a week Vimeo converts the original file into an MP4 which you may find harder to play.

Sweet. Glad that worked & I hope you liked the music I put behind your footage of 'God' in heaven...presiding over all those cameras.

Well... sadly there is (like build a decent slit camera from a plastic point & shoot and make it actually work...)
But I often tend to go the Bob the Builder route: Can we build it? Yes we can!

Superb stuff, yet again!

Ed - I suspect you'll have Health & Safety knocking down your door once they get wind of your kitchen-based antics. But if you need to borrow my hair straighteners for any future tutorial, you know you need only ask. By the way, how much did you get paid for the Waitrose product placement...?

Francois - you sound like Stephen Hawking on my computer, and, after watching your contributions, I have no doubt you have an equivalent brain capacity.

Nice work,   I'm late getting round to watching this - but nice work people.

Love the way the fuji neg reclaim section is seamlessly cut between the end of one (very long) day with just a few pints to (a bit) early the following morning.

Also I have to also plug mr arundel photographica, after the post on the forum  I mailed him about a 4x5 dev tank as i couldn't afford GBP100 for a new one,  lo and behold...yes he had an "as-new" old one,   with postage GBP23....bargain.

(Edited to change the '?' signs to 'GBP')

That was interesting to watch on prescription drugs... All great fun and film for thought...

I would state that for ease it's easier to leave the tape in situ on the glass and just peel away what is required to release the negative. Otherwise instant perfection.

As for the Benny Hill Yakety Sax song, well I had to pay tribute to the greatest bald cult hero of them all.
