Tokyo Gallery reccomendations
« on: May 10, 2010, 05:18:06 AM »
I'm heading out tomorrow with the family for a visit to Tokyo relatives.  Bringing my son (1 yr old) to visit for the first time.  I'm hoping to get the occasional bit of free time and was wondering if anyone had some recommendations for Galleries to view photography work?  I think I'm staying in Aoyama.  Already have a trip to MAP Camera planned.  Thanks.

Tokyo Met Museum of Photography in Ebisu is always a good place to start. Also check out Japan Exposures http://www.japanexposures.com/ for info. Around Higashi-Ginza you'll find a lot of secondhand camera shops and big-name galleries, such as Canon, Nikon, etc, mostly free entrance. The Leica shop in Ginza has a gallery above. Shinjuku also has a lot of spaces. Check online English publications for what's on.

I'm jealous. Have always wanted to get over to Japan...not quite managed it yet. Have a great time.

Aoyama? Rat Hole would be a good start, an easy walk to start with. Then Ebisu always has something as suggested too.

But, I would also try some targeted searches at TAB:

If you're free over the next week, I was planning on visiting this show:

Send me a note! Skj.
