I've been playing with this image so long I don't actually like it anymore.

However I still can't decide if it's better cropped or not? or if you want suggest a different crop please go ahead.... I'd really appreciate your advice.

(isn't it great to have a holiday weekend to spend time on such things)

Off to see 'The girl with the dragon tattoo' tonight - apropos nothing.

I vote no crop  as the slight tones at the top of the image add interest... The cropped image also feels too crowded imho.

Negative crop for me too. It just looks...well, cropped.

I messed around with it. My eyes are going really bad.

All I have is PSE 2...basic stuff. Just dodged a few areas out, diffuse glow, burn, and there ya go.

Nicely said Peter. As much as I'm a square person,  that rectangle crop is the money-maker I'd say.  Great shot Nigel. Looks ripe for a nice cooltone print with a touch of thiocarb toning to yellow up the highlights.

The sky is pretty even without any important details. Since it occupies only a slim part of the image, I would crop it out.
It won't affect composition if it's gone.

Peter / Leon - thanks I think you're right the rectangular crop seems to be the way to go. I think this proves the point that there's not correct answer to a question like this, it's all a matter of taste.

As an aside, on the back of this I've found myself a copy of Photoshop CS3 on amazon (Cs4 is just too expensive for my budget). I'm not too interested in spending a lot of time in photoshop but I'd sometimes like to be able to dodge and burn. Looking forward to having a play with it.

Photoshop CS3 works very well... I'll probably stick with it until photoshop CS21 comes out ;)
