I have been using LightMeter in my iPhone for the last year or so.  Once I understood the protocol, I was able to use the program pretty much as I would use any light meter.  The results are consistent and, as far as I can tell, accurate.  I prefer to use my Sekonic light meter most of the time because it is faster and easier to use but I am glad to have a meter in my phone when I forget to bring the Sekonic.

I've had times where my batteries died far out in the field... I would love to have extra backup plans when I'm out of batteries!

worth a shot, although my Gossen hasn't required a change of batteries in a long time, whereas I only have to look at the iphone to drain it of power.
And with Francois' most helpful link, batteries not required   :)

I also found a slightly different one which requires more work but is more "sensitive" in low light situations...
Besides, it sports the Made in the UK logo ;)

I've just downloaded the app too! You can't have too many back-up plans.  ;)

I use my BB Bold not so much as a light meter, but as a tonality preview.  I shoot B&W and I shoot the subject area in B&W on the phone.  I couple that with my manual metering with my handheld Weston Master IV to decide where I specific portions of the subject area to fall within the film's ranges.
Thank you.
