Japanese help please? Fuji discontinue Neopan 400
« on: March 02, 2010, 07:50:20 AM »
Hi all - rumours are stirring about fuji making some cutbacks in film production including the end of the Neopan  400 film. Apparently this page contains the info, but my Japanese is non-existent and babelfish is no clearer. Can our FW Japanese contingent help? http://fujifilm.jp/information/articlead_0029.html the rumours appear to originate from japanexposures website.

I saw the announcement on JE as well. According to Dirk and Kurt, the dashes to the right side in the column that shows available products and packaging indicate no longer available.

There is such a dash by this: ネオパンプレスト400 12枚撮 単品  - Single-roll  Neopan Presto 400 (120 film).

A quick Google shows this rumour has been kicking around for about a year?

More sad news then :(

I'm assuming the presto film is the same as the normal neopan?

thats as maybe, but Japan exposures - a fuji sales outlet  - announced this a few days ago http://www.japanexposures.com/2010/02/26/fujifilm-to-reorganize-film-lineup/

and the fuji website reference is the 5th Feb 2010 - here's a google translate version http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&tl=en&u=http://fujifilm.jp/information/articlead_0029.html

Just going on memory here (I'm still at work) but I think Neopan Presto 400 is simply the full name here (Japan).

oh dear, neopan 120 was my mono film of choice. I'll keep an eye on availability of the 5 packs but will probably switch over to Ilford HP5.

I know we all get stuck on preferred brands, often with good reason, but it seems to me that as Ilford seem to be the only people dedicating themselves to silver halide, perhaps we should all support their product lines a bit more. I've recently gone back to FP4+ with pleasurable results and got a stack of Pan F to play with.

Hate to see any silver film go by the wayside.....but I'm a big fan of Ilford HP5

I just wish the numbers on the paper backing were a bit darker so I could see them through the red windows.

Fraction Mag posted on their Facebook page that Fujifilm USA said that Neopan 400 isn't going anywhere.

And I read somewhere that the were no longer going to be selling singles,   just in packs of 5.  This might be the rough translation of "5 these packs"

ill try and dig out where I read it,   sure i saw it from a fellow FW on twitter?

Dirk advises it is indeed gone. With a strong bead on the folks at Fuji, I suggest this is likely true... Zannen!

Note though only the films with the '-' against them appear to be completely discontinued, and the others will continue to be available in the formats and packing mentioned. While many 24-frame 135-format listings will also stop, the fully discontinued (no formats available) films only include:

o 120-format Neopan Presto 400.
o 120-format Pro160NC.
o T64 sheet films.

From the FujiFilm press release:

Roughly translated by me, so do not trust:
Thank you for your patronage, and your continued use of Fuji Photo Film products. Sales of the following product will stop as soon as our company becomes out of stock. However, please inquire at your retailer when you want to buy it.

The market for silver film continues to reduce, and continuing production of large-scale volumes and full packaging line-ups is difficult. Please continue your favors toward us, and we understand humbly the inconvenience that will be felt  by everybody.

Their Black and White page here: FujiFilm B&W Page. Clearly lists the formats being discontinued 'when stocks run out' - those with the (*1) notes and relevant dates. Non-Japanese speakers should be able to scan the romanji table headings and note in the first column 'Size' the formats (not films) marked for demise.

The US site make no mention of BW film at all, except through searching for data pdfs. The UK site still lists all film, with no mention of discontinuation.

The release from HQ went out on February 5, so likely the other international affiliate are still digesting... Skj.

 :)

It's funny, but the faint numbers on the backing tape was absolutely the main reason I stayed with Tri-X all the way through my early toycamera years...and it took a visit to the Ilford factory to convince me to even consider switching back to them.

Please Ilford/Harmon...make the bl**dy numbers darker. How hard can it be?

As sad as the subject is on this occasion, I can't help but sit here and be very impressed by the network of informed people we have here on Filmwasters. It's been fascinating watching this story develop and the different regions checking in with their latest info. Thanks all.

<fantasy mode on>Let's hope next time this happens we'll be discussing Ilford/Harmon's decision to re-introduce POP </fantasy mode off>

If somehow this doesn't surprise me, I still wonder about the environmental impact of producing a CCD sensor or CMOS chip...

Strictly in the rumour category...

http://www.aphog.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13026

It is this sentence:
"Was noch nicht so ?ffentlich ist: Fuji wird (wohl noch in 2010) einen Nachfolger pr?sentieren."

Translation:
What it is not official yet: Fuji will (probably still in 2010) present a successor.

A friend of mine emailed Mr. Schroeder and asked about the source, and he said this statement is from Fuji in Germany.

According to an individual who reportedly got in contact with Fujifilm JP, they claim the material they can no longer use is called PFOS and apparently illegal for manufacture use.
