Saw these pop up on my friend's Facebook page. Impressive stuff, Skorj - especially the tenth and eleventh images in the set.

Interesting about the organised tours, too. Did you feel safe when walking around the island? Looking at the photos, I should imagine the place will be nightmare to risk-assess! I'd like to travel out there myself when I visit Japan in April, though I'm not sure my girlfriend will share the same enthusiasm.

Wow, amazing and a great set of images.    I can relate to the "gawking tourist" thing, whenever I've been to large abandonments (although never the same scale or isolation as this) I go with good intent but end up getting totally overwhelmed by the situation and switch to tourist mode, unable to see the wood for the trees.  I think it's understandable, I place like this just overloads the brain!

Did you feel safe when walking around the island?

Having been an urban explorer for many years, and working in public safety & emergency response, we felt reasonably well equipped to explore the island. But, many buildings we still refused to enter because of either spalling or sever undermining. I did feel nekkid without a hardhat though...
