The Weekend 24/25 October
« on: October 23, 2009, 05:56:02 PM »
It's the weekend, huraah!

I'm so far behind on the scanning, scanned this afternoon but taken this summer. Taken on Herne Bay pier (North Kent). Holga 120GFN with Portra 400VC.

Just scanned this one, it needs a bit of editing but I do like it.

Nice pics of Herne Bay pier Nigel.  I love it there ... it's the only town with a true "retro pier". Shame about the rest of the town!

Trying to kick-start my scanning backlog and get back to photography after too many months away.  Too many enthusiam killing  disappointments, but I was happy with this matchbox pinhole photo

Nigel's balloon shot reminds me of the time I spotted a large bunch of metallic balloons in a field as I was  driving home one night. The balloons were still just about floating, backed by a superb early evening sky. It looked great, too good to miss.  I raced the last mile home, grabbed a couple of cameras but when I got back, a car was parked up and another photographer was snapping away with an SLR.  Slightly annoyed, I parked at a polite distance and waited impatiently as the sun got lower, but the light got better.  As he put his camera away, the light and shadows were perfect!  I started my engine and moved off...    then the guy grabbed the balloons, stuffed them in the back of his car and drove away!  :o  :'(

didn't go out, but was playing around with polagrams this evening, using fuji fp-100c. the landscape is a contact print using a 665 neg. not too exciting, but interesting in concept. the other looks like a background from a 1968 cream concert. or a macro of a petri dish.

Listening to the opening bars of Shine on You Crazy Diamond, and three lemon sours into the evening, the first one here Nigel, makes me dream off into the 1970s... Nice.

shot a bunch of stuff late week/this weekend.  Odd results on a foggy morning with the Great Wall and a thin negative.  Anyone know how to identify Great Wall models?  (I though this may be a DF 2, but am thinking that with the limited settings and optics it's the first model).

Odd result too, but very pleasing. Notable too in that it is missing the ooops-too-much-Photoshop-balance-correcting sometimes found on both thin negatives, and crappy camera results. Very pleasing in fact.

Sorry, I cannot help too on the Great Wall - though I can recall an Internet page that held the variable details... Skj.

You can always give the Medium Format library a try... here's the link for the DF4

Looked at different resources and really can't tell unless the serial number can give me a clue.  Looks exacty like your DF 2 Sean, but no DF 2 on the name on the front plate.  But in the end I guess it really doesn't matter.  I have a Great Wall and be it a original model, or DF 2, it's what I have and shall thus live with ;-)

Another f80 arrived today from ebay to replace my broken one. It turned up grubby, smelly and with dead batteries so I wasn't hopeful but i put a film through this afternoon and it's fine, i'm so pleased.

i keep getting frustrated by how small i have to make the pics....
i reduce to a resolution of 72 but if i go over 500 pixels on the longest side it won't accept it.....i know this is a stupid question but how do i reduce the size to be able to post a bigger picture...I'm useless with PS.

i scan at 300-400 for prints, 1200 for negs, then if i want to post here i resize to 650-700 pixels at it's widest side. just make sure the "resample image" is checked (all three choices should be checked, actually). then i use the "Save for Web & Devices" which allows you to adjust the quality to keep it under 200kb without losing all of your quality. you don't need to reduce the resolution yourself.
