Anyone recommend a good solid [edit] incident and reflected [edit] lightmeter for about 50GBP ?

Lunasix?

I bought a Weston Meter for 2 quid but it doesn't seem too accurate!!!!!

Some of the older Gossen light meters like the Lunasix use old mercury batteries which are now unavailable. So check before you buy.

I use a Gossen Lunapro F which uses a standard 9V battery. Has a flash option, which I've hardly ever used but has come in handy a couple of times.

Totally reliable meter, quite large and chunky. But an excellent all round cheap light meter

I use a Minolta IVF but they still fetch more than ?50. But the Minolta III tends to sell for around that.

I can't be bothered with light meters - they just get in the way. I've taken just as many bad photos when using a lightmeter as I have without using one.

However, if you do feel a little exposed with out one, I've heard that digicams can be used and make pretty good lightmeters.

Coincidence,
I used to use a Lunapro (Lunasix) which I'd bought with wein-cells in it. They didn't last long.

After a while I decided to buy the Gossen adapter, it arrived today, uses 2x LR44 cells, though it wasn't cheap,  ?26 (from Microglobe).


Edit. This software doesn't like the "pound" sign. that's 26 quid.

Yeah, I had to get the little battery adapter insert, about $35 for me stateside.  But it's a lovely analog meter, reflective and incident.

The battery adapters are just a simple diode. On Mike Butkus' website, he has a document that was put out by Rollei which explains in mind numbing detail how batteries work and why the conversion is different depending on how many batteries are used.
