Howdy all,
Here are a few of the latest multiple exposures taken with my Brownie Hawkeye. The first two were shot with Agfa Ultra 50, the last with Kodak Ektar 100. Have a great weekend, everyone! :D

Taken and processed during the latter part of the week with my new old-school Diana.  Why do such cheap simple cameras give me so much pleasure ?

heading up north this week for a few days, looking for cooler weather.

they don't look like leaks, they look like the lines you get when you don't pull the film out at a consistent speed. if you pause or slow down or don't pull out straight, you sometimes get vertical banding.

Was in the garden this afternoon testing out a Yashica GT rangefinder that I bought recently.

Some poppy seed heads.

The garden table after the rain.

I'm quite impressed with the GT but it's too big and heavy for me so it'll probably get moved on. Anyone else use one (or any of the other Electro 35 series)? Because I had problems with batteries and, after some research, I wrote up my findings here. Might be of interest to any other users.

Lynn: of my Hawkeye photos posted yesterday, the first and third images were taken with Agfa Ultra 50; the other two
were taken with Kodak Ektar 100.

I've never used Digibase!  Ok... so it has no orange mask, correct? And if this is so, how on earth do you get your scanner to correctly scan it?

I ask because I have a large stock of Kodak Vericolor Print, ISO 8 - - it has no orange mask and in my scanner's software (Silverfast Ai) there is no choice for a non-masked color print film.  I can't remember what I end up selecting as the film type off hand.  The result when I scan: verrry weird colors.  I spend hours just trying to get something half-way normal, but never get anything that's in the 'lovely' category, much less 'normal'.

Very interesting film..first of all the first roll I used I took to be developed (only) and they refused to believe it wasn't black and white  film..Had to have Lomography.com actually call them..to say the least I don't go there anymore..Found new guys to do the work..but its a 70 mile drive each way..I use vuescan software on my epson 4490 scanner and it takes a lot of patience to get something that looks decent..Using it in my Brownie is always iffie..but in my Diana+ I like the results..In my Isolette folder I like the results alot!  I am such a novice to photography that I am usually in the dark about film..just blunder along in the dark..so to speak...
Living in Idaho does have some bearing on getting work done correctly.. :) :) Sad to say!

Ann, Diane has mentioned Vuescan software, I have used it, along with Silverfast and Epson software and have found it to be very good. A bit of duffering around to get it sorted but for the most it offers better access to variables.

I am about to load it on today on the work machine as the Epson software for the V500 only has unadjustable presets for film size - it goes up to 6x9 on medium format and I am doing 6x12.

I couldn't remember if Vuescan allows a variable on the film size, so will discover that today. I think you can get a trial version of the software.

cheers

Thanks Diane and Ken.

Curious then: when I scan film using Silverfast Ai, I tell the software which film I'm using and it preloads the profile for that film's mask or base so that colors and tones render accurately.  Every once in awhile I'll shoot an obscure or near extinct film for which there is not listing and I just go with something that's as close a match as possible.  Unfortunately i have no idea what to select for a maskless film - there are no "close" choices.

Do you have to select a film type in Vuescan, or do you just scan and start working with the levels, curves, channels and selective color?

Okay to perfectly honest I have just unpacked my V700 after it was in transit since November last year.

So I will sort through the workflow and give you a answer today or later tonight.

I generally, from faded memory, used to work with one of the neutral setups.

When using obscure, out of date or other films from t he weird cupboard in the back of the darkroom I personally would photography a grey card with your first frame under a known and consistent light source so you have a reference frame and then save that as a preset and work from there.

It saves a lot of stuffing around during the scanning phase

I do not select a film type..maybe I should. :) but have done ok so far..the
"right click" on a neutral background as a second step usually takes care of any issues...that being said..the next time I use the software I will prolly look at the film selection choices just to see...I have owned this software since the early part of the century and updated it at every new offer..I think I originally paid $40.00 for the license, not sure of what the price is now..but well worth it..seems to offer a great deal of options..

okay O_A I have finally got Vuescan onto the work machine - how a loathe windows - and just went for it out of the box.

1) It found the whole 6x12 neg

2) It did a very good proof scan on defaults

3) It was very intuitive to use

I will do some more today if I can scare up a colour neg or 10 and see how it goes. I think at this level all the above mentioned software's are excellent but have their own quirks, so it comes down to USABLE  features and personal preference I guess.

I personally find Epson easy to use and a good result, very intuitive but with some odd little weird things like fixed neg size to annoy you. Silverfast is great but for whatever reason I could never learn to love it, but it always gave a good result, Vuescan became my friend when I was running a Agfa Duoscan and a Canoscan 2720 on a SCSI chain and a series of Canon and Epson flatbeds I was testing on firewire - and the software would find all of them all the time and have them in a drop down menu and I got very good consistent results from the software.

If you have any queries that I can test here don't be afraid to send them through.

Just a random idea: ever thought of scanning it as slide and then simply inverting it in Photoshop?

I did a similar experiment once... OK, it was way different, I had set my digicam's white balance to the color of the orange mask, shot a picture of the negative on the light table and inverted it in Photoshop... I was very surprised by the result.

Anyways, it was just a random idea. Hope it works for you :)

Some nice work here folks. Seems I am always a sucker for lo-fi. Me; I loaded some XP2 Super into my Wai Wai Wide, and some gas into the Mustang and took a fast blast from DC to Charlottesville chasing Corvettes...

Not much in the photography arena, but fun regardless:

The 17mm plastic lens on the Wai Wai always fascinates me. The little mirror on the front makes for great self portrait framing (held back here for obvious reasons). For more on the Wai Wai CLICK HERE.

Arriving in NY, I took some of Sean's favorite film, stole his technique, and enjoyed my 195:

See ya! Skj.
