First Shots With a Polaroid Super Shooter + Questions
« on: June 27, 2009, 02:33:09 PM »
so i finally got the polaroid super shooter a friend has been promising to send me for 6 months or so. the first four shots are posted below - shot on fuji fp-100c instant film. the shots seem a bit on the flat end and with a bit of a cyan cast(the images below have a slight magenta cast but that's due to the scanning, the actual shots are a bit colder). i'm not sure if these problems are due to still learning how to adjust the lightness/darkness dial correctly, the nature of the film, or the camera.  i only estimated the temperature and counted out how long before peeling(didn't use a watch for accurate time to peel).  i set the camera to "75" as that's what it said to do for colour film on the back of the camera. any suggestions?

nice shots first off.

the 75 relates to film speed,  the film intended would have been 75asa,  the fuji is 100asa  so i guess part of the issue might be exposure, although not sure how significant a 25 asa difference would be in practice.

accurate time to peeling....should be an issue,  i guess make sure you go over suggested time  but ive not peeled film for a few hours and it doesnt seem affected.

I find instant film always works best with a bit of light on the subject (colour anyway)  also the plastic lens stuff doesnt always have as much pop as the glass lens varieties...although in saying that ive had a few exceptions.

anyway  dune is on the telly so im distracted.....

you might need to clean the lens, as well. i have a colorpack II with a foggy, fungusy lens and the photos are softer and more dull.

thanks for the suggestions. yeah, it wouldn't seem to make a huge difference. i mean there's only two options 75 and 3000.  compared to my holga with the instant film back the images are much more flat. it was pretty sunny out while i was taking the shots, so i don't think it was exactly due to lack of light.

the lens doesn't seem noticeably dirty. but there could be something i'm not seeing. i'm not sure how to get the lens off to clean the inside, but the outside shouldn' t be too much of a problem.

maybe set the dial a bit lighter, but it should work fine. maybe just that pack of film? i use 100c in my colorpack III, which is essentially the same camera, with no problems.

it could be the pack of film. i'm starting to wonder if maybe they are just overexposed. the light tends to be rather strong here afterall.

well, took it out again today and got what's posted below. much better colour. i "spit washed" the lens, put it on one level lighter than "normal" and made sure to let it have more time to develop. i'm not sure what i was doing wrong with those early shots, but i'm glad that i can at least get colours that aren't totally flat.
