a cry for help
« on: July 20, 2006, 02:26:07 PM »
I'm heart broken. My lovely Yashica-Mat (which I've neglected for ages and only just started using again) has bust. The focussing ring has come loose and no longer seems to have any connection to the bar that shifts the lens back and forth. I can't actually take it off all together to try to reconnect it. I have taken the camera apart as far as I can but the bit I need to get to is encased in a box and there seems to be no way of getting to it. Does anyone know what I could do next???

I really wanted to take it away on holiday with me next week but it doesn't look likely  :'(
All my cameras seem to be breaking at the moment, I'm only left with my Nikon and my trusty Diana.

Boo Hoo, poor me

Let's hope it is just your Focusing Knob Nut that has come un-done. What are you like at tightening nuts? You'll need to remove the knob cap. Can you hear the nut rattling inside perhaps?

Here's your starting point:

Alternatively, yikes (!), your Focusing Cam Set may have come off the focusing shaft. This would be a bit more nasty. Unless you've forced something, it is more than likely something has come un-done. Well just guessing of course. More diagrams available if you get yourself in too much strife.

Hi Skorj, thanks, I tried to remove the focussing knob cap but couldn't get it off. Is there a trick to it?

I've passed the camera to someone at work who can fix anything (he keeps all our 60's microphones working) so I'm hoping he can do something. If not, I'm on my own with a diagram. Scarey

You will need very wide flat blade - metal ruler, butter knife, to put into these two little slots, to turn anti-clockwise. This is of course if it is the knob that has come loose on the shaft. Which should feel entirely different to something else inside:
