Low light star - Neopan 1600 pushed 2 stops to ASA 6400
« on: November 06, 2008, 12:35:21 PM »
I'm going to shoot a KWC show (this metal band that friends are in) on the 17th to learn how to drink properly from an out of town visitor as I take pics.  So a friend in the band who also shoots film says the place is dark so I thought I ought to be prepared.  I love Fuji Neopan 1600 and have been shooting it a stop faster than rated at ASA 3200 and find that ideal.  But my friend says I might need to push whatever film I use another stop to 6400 - I don't like Tmax 3200 - so I tested the Neopan pushed 2 stops to 6400.

I couldn't find any development times for it pushed to 6400 so made an educated extrapolated guess - 11.5 minutes at 24C in Tmax developer.

Amazing.  Shadow detail is fantastic.  It's a bit grainier but not bad at all.  Fuji  :thum:

I know I've shot TMZ (tmax 3200P) once and loved it... except the price :(
I've seen pictures of it pushed to 25,000 ISO and it still looks quite amazing considering the amount of underexposure it was subjected to. In reality, TMZ has a nominal speed of only EI 1000 in Tmax developer.

Film is the vinyl record of photography.

In comparing TMZ to Neopan 1600 at ASA 3200, I find the Neopan far superior in every way -- shadow detail, richness, and grain.

I think TMZ is more geared towards the press photographer. EI 25.000 is pretty high for everyday folks and artists. Just imagine how little light you need! Probably impossible to focus without any assistance when using an SLR.

That's another 2 stops...

I don't think I would need that.  6400 should cover things for me fine.   :)
