Really new... what's the point of another similar forum again  ??? Obviously okay it might promote film photography but it being in a newspaper already isn't so good... it makes it look like it's very underground. Compare that to APUG with nearly 30,000 members which makes it look like film photography is quite well.  And it seems to be attracting the same members as here and APUG... Hmm...

Every forum/community has its own personality and vibe so it's not a bad thing to have another forum.

Besides, I can't imagine anyplace being more laid back than here, so maybe the new place might be a bit more tightly wrapped?
Who knows?

I say the more the merrier, plus if it's for film that's just more icing for the analog cake!

And of those 30 odd posts, 17 have been made by Ben the admin.

I put a poll on there. Go make your choice.

Choppert - where on the Guardian website did you see the link to this forum? Just curious

In one of the Google Ads near the bottom

I've got two ads for holidays in the Galapgos Islands and one for gymnastics photography...

These Google ads get rotated.

You have to question the motives of someone who sets up so many forums and a 'film photography day'. Is he just looking to get self promotion, is he an ego hunter or does he genuinely think the world is going to benefit.

I think he just a genuine enthusiast that enjoys making online forums.  not a lot more to say about it really

Ben has had the idea for a Film photography day for a while now, and he did contact us (and several other forums) 2 years ago to ask for support with the idea.  Sadly, we were all too busy to get our act together with the whole thing, and we didnt get back to him, so apologies Ben if you're lurking.  Good luck with your forum too, hope it ends up as enjoyable for you as this place is for us.

Whoever said starting forums and sites are an ego-trip .... just remember, there's no "I" in Forum ...  ;D ;) ;D

Why do we need another forum when we're all already here?

From a purely selfish perspective I agree with Nic. I only have so much time in the day and I neglect Filmwasters more than I'd like already. I don't want you all disappearing somewhere else to talk to each other! Come back, close the door!!
 :D

Seriously though, I wish Ben good luck with his forum...if he can attract a whole bunch of DIFFERENT people to the wonderful world of film that will be great. I'd join as an act of solidarity etc., but I can't see that I'd have time to go there so it would be a bit of an empty gesture. If nothing else this serves as a reminder to those of us 'running' Filmwasters, that if we want to keep you coming back here we have to stay on top of things and keep it interesting. In that respect a little competition is a good thing. Also, as we've discussed on previous posts, we aren't doing FW for page hits, or ad revenue etc. We just wanted a fun place to hang out online and talk photography with like-minded people and without all the tech speak...keep it focussed on the images, the creativity, the inspiration...the pictures of graveyards, dinosaurs, statues and Leon's dogs  ;D So another photo forum or 3 is no biggie as long as you lot hang around here still and keep things from getting boring.

Well... if he doesn't it truly means there aren't a lot of people who still shoot film!
I can see the front page of the paper:

Well, I think that might be more accurately applied to APUG than FW.

Nope... on APUG, they don't buy film; they make it themselves like little alchemists in their basement  :D
