RA4 paper pinhole negatives
« on: February 09, 2008, 10:52:52 AM »
here's one for the panel of experts.

I want to build a large pinhole camera, and I want to use colour.

Could I use RA4 paper?  When developed I assume I'd get a colour negative of some sort,  which I could then scan and invert (or contact print if I was feeling adventurous)

Would this work?  I've done paper B&W negative pinholes and guessed at about ISO3 or something similarly slow when judging exposures.  Would RA-4 be similar?

I'm tempted to try this for a specific project I have in mind where I need large negatives but before I invest in RA4 chems and paper has anyone got any thoughts ?

How about using Cibachrome (Ilfochrome) to get direct positives?

Yes, I did look at that but it's much more expensive both for the paper & chemistry.

would the price offset the time and trouble for scanning and then reversing the cheaper stuff to a positive though?
Just wondering.

Yes, probably, but I don't get paid enough  :'(

100 sheets 10x8 fuji RA4 - GBP 23
100 sheets Ilfochrome - GBP 136

3l fotospeed RA4 room temp kit GBP 20
3l ilfochrome kit GBP 50

It's going to take a strong business case to get even the RA4 stuff past the family financial controller unfortunately!
