Pinhole Camera Build.
« on: August 16, 2024, 09:04:22 PM »
A fascinating video of the making of a 5x4 pinhole camera.

https://www.diyphotography.net/this-is-what-happens-when-a-fine-woodworker-builds-a-camera/

Interesting techniques used to smooth the edges of the pinhole.  Not the first time he has done this to my mind.

If only I had the skills/tools etc to make something similar.

I am intrigued by the circular ‘light leak’ on the images created from the camera, I wonder what the cause is?

Although to me it adds something to the images. A bit like the imperfections/fingerprints that you get with collodion images.

It probably comes from the brass ring that surrounds the pinhole.
I've had to deal with weird stuff like that on some builds and lets just say that it can be a bit of a nightmare to hunt down.

Thanks Francois,

Subsequent to my original post, I found his website.

and there was a comment here suggesting, it was probably a reflection from the brass ring.

He is also quite an accomplished photographer.

I know from building a bunch of camera gear that reflections and light leaks often don't come from places you expect.
So does vignetting.
I've built a camera that always makes a weird mottled band on one side of the image. It turns out that it's the wood from the shutter that gets captured. This had me puzzled to no end...🙄
