Weekend April 9 to 11, 2021
« on: April 09, 2021, 04:26:39 PM »
As discussed a few weeks ago on the weekend thread I attempted more light bulb shots.  The vacuum tubes didn't work out very well but I did have some luck with flash bulbs.  I created this tryptich of the flash bulb before during and after the flash.  Obviously it's 2 different bulbs, I can't wind the film cock the shutter and press the shutter release that fast with my Mamiya C3.  The second shot is actually just after the peak flash, full flash would have blown out the shot or burned a hole in my film.  I think what I actually caught there was a bit more of whats going on in the last shot, the last bits of filament burning.  The last shot actually looks like sparks jumping around in the bulb.

The way I did this was with the bulb in the flash of my Crown Graphic and the Mamiya focused on the bulb.  Using a cable release on both cameras I just snapped the Mamiya shutter right after the Crown Graphic shutter, so basically I got a few lucky shots out of about 5 attempts.

The flash bulb is a Sylvania Press 25.  The film is CatLABS X FILM 80 developed in Beer.

That's great, Bryan, I love those. I guess with an ND filter you could shoot an incandescent light bulb.

These are from a walk we took along the Thames a couple of weeks ago. A local artist started a fictitious North Kent Space Agency in this area, then the structure on the horizon was erected a while after which fed into the myth really well. They produced a great NKSA t-shirt I've been trying to get my hands on but they're no longer available.

I bought a used camera from Japan some time ago and received with it a roll of Yama 400 film as a freebie. The only previous knowledge I have of the Yama brand are some really expensive lens hoods. Checking their website they supply re-usable plastic cameras, and this film is included. I assume it is repackaged,  but the marking on the film doesn't give anything away. I scanned it as Fuji Superia 400 and it looks quite OK.

Definitely great shots. You must have been seeing spots for a few hours after that!

Spotted while film testing a recently fixed camera.

I closed my eyes, I learned my lesson on that years ago.

Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

Since the weather is so abnormally nice (we hit 24°C yesterday, a huge jump from the 7°C average), the flowers are starting to bloom.
Since like a bee I'm attracted to the smell of sugar, I took out the Instax Mini to get a few of the nicest blooms.
Not groundbreaking but somehow quite satisfying :)

I found an old roll of film in the bottom of a box the other day and decided to just take it out and use it, not sure of it's history.
This is the best of the roll...a surprise double.

Really enjoying these images folks! And it's reminding me that I have colour films to shoot, so thanks for the reminder :D Meanwhile, this is from a roll of Rollei 400 IR with no filter this time.
