Self-quarantine Weekend #2 March 27 to 29, 2020
« on: March 27, 2020, 05:53:32 PM »
Testing a 1948 Kodak Flash Bantam that I picked up last year.  The film is unperforated ORWO UN54, ISO 100 developed in Rodinal 1:50 for 9 minutes.  I bought a bulk roll of the unperforated ORWO UN54 for spooling my own 828 film.  I'm re-using backing paper from old rolls as well as making my own by cutting down 120 backing paper.

Taking advantage of the nice weather we have right now to get out with a camera.

Bryan, that ORWO is very nice...I may have to give that a try sometime...right now I'm just looking through the weeds of my old files.
This one is from several years ago made with a Diana Dreamer, which I quite like and some Fuji Acros...the good stuff.

That ORWO UN54 is, I believe, the same film as what Lomo is putting out as Potsdam. I've shot it in 120 and I love it. Old cinema films look great shot in old still cameras.

These from my Essential Services / Covid-19 series. Kiev 10 with Mir 20mm f3.5 and Tri-X.

I got the ORWO UN54 because it was the only unperforated film I could find to spool as 828, I actually like it.  They say it compares to Plus-X and can be developed as negative and reversal.  They market it as Photography and Cinematography film.  I'll try it in beer the next time I shoot it, I used Rodinal this time so I can compare my results.

Love seeing the ORWO and old Acros shots here. Even though it's not quite the same, I'm still very excited about the new Acros II; I'm hoping it will be available in 4x5 soon.

Here's a shot of San Francisco (pre-quarantine). Mamiya RZ67, Fuji Pro 400H.

I haven't been able, yet, to gear up for processing and my lab's closed for another week, so . . . one from the archive. Easter 1928 in Southern California, my dad (on the left) with his cousins and younger brother. The scan's from a nitrate negative, 116/616 format if memory serves.

Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

Great work all... perhaps I'll catch up on my outstanding developing & scanning in the coming weeks and be able to contribute more.

Love the Greenwich shots Irv... been a while since I last went there... will be a great place for a F/Ws meet-up when this is all over.

Stay safe.

I took a nice walk with the Hasselblad yesterday and spent some time looking up. The new Ektachrome in 120 is fun to use and sits nicely flat when scanning. :-)

Shot just before the lockdown, dev'd after. I'm enjoying Andrew Sanderson's blog and IG stream about shooting at home. This was taken out on my back patio after a rain. Shot on some GAF film that expired in '68 dev'd in an ad hoc mixture of phenidone, washing soda and ascorbic acid.

Already keeping safe distance on February 24.  Today, our Governor (of Rhode Island), announced that RI National Guard will search door-to-door for people who have been in New York recently—14 day quarantine for them.  Most of the rest of us must shelter in place.

Glad to see the light has been generous with everybody this week.

Going out once a week or so (since March 1st) means taking a camera only when doing other shopping and stopping off wherever it's reasonable, but that does allow me to continue to indulge myself in shooting the local river.

These were the only two on the roll worth bothering with as it was a crappy old Fomapan 200. That ain't clouds in the sky, that's just emulsion. But it was a test for light leaks (sorted) and winding/counting (sorted), so hopefully the next roll will be finer.

Cheers mate
Sound like a fine idea for walkaround  I'll keep it in mind.

That Ektachrome looks nice Jeff. I promised myself that I'm going to use up my existing colour stocks and only shoot B&W but that shot makes it  look tempting to try.

If I had known we were doing "crappy emulsion" I would have chimed in with this one! Taken with some expired ('68) GAF Type II Class N on a drive from Spokane, Washington to San Diego, CA. This highway is smaller than the main interstates so the going can be a little slower, but man what scenery!

I swear I meant to post these yesterday, but I did not. So I'm allowing myself to post these on a Monday. With social isolation, every day feels the same anyways, right? ;D These are from a quick walk I took with my Pentax ME Super and a MIR 47K 20/2.5 (not the same as Peter's MIR 20H 20/3.5, which I also have, but only in M42 mount [and the M42 to PK adapter I have is IMPOSSIBLE to use ;D ])

Just back from the grocery store to pick-up my order.
In those days of uncertainty, you tend to do things you don't normally do... like washing clementines in soapy water before putting them in the fridge.

Uh-oh! There's a ghost in front of that ambulance.  :o

It's the spirit of the person with COVID who is no longer with us  :'(

(The ambulance is NOT going towards Elmhurst, it's going in the opposite direction...  ??? )

Yep!

We haven't been washing ours but we do have an isolation shelf in our fridge now where things sit for a few days before use.

Definitely. And a whole lot of other foods that are not supposed to go in there.
Bananas come to mind. While the cold makes their skin turn an ugly brown, they stay tasting good for at least double the time that they last on the counter.
If you want to try it out, next time you buy a hand, put one in the fridge to see. It's a cheap experiment.
