point and shoot suggestions?
« on: May 25, 2019, 06:30:13 PM »
Hi all,

I'm doing a little project that involves two or more people exposing a roll of film two or more times in the same camera. I need an inexpensive point and shoot that has the ability to leave the leader out when it rewinds the film so it can be reused.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking $50 or less.

Thanks!

You want my XA for $50? It's not exactly point-and-shoot, but as long as the people who are going to use it know how to zone focus (the rangefinder patch is borderline unusable) and use aperture priority, it'll be fine. Another quirk about this particular one is that sometimes it fires when the shutter is cocked and the clamshell is closed, so the easy way to avoid that is not to advance the film until right before you take a picture.

Satish's XA, or, check out Webbcam on 12th and Vine, they had some pretty decent looking Olympus/Fuji P&S when I stopped by today.

I came across an old Rangefinder Forum thread on this topic: https://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-146069.html

Auto-rewind cameras that leave the leader out include: Nikon TW2AF and L135AF, and Pentax PC-333. All of these seem to be in the $10 range currently.

I'd also go for any of the Konica C35 series or some other 38mm f/2.8 camera.

Hi everyone, thanks for the suggestions!  Miguel, I'm going to start by checking out that store. You've mentioned it before but I've never been there.  Thanks!

The place Miguel suggested was great. They had stacks of boxes of brand new cameras. I got this camera and two fresh AA batteries for $33.00. Brand NEW from the '90s!
