Spotmatic F Woe!
« on: March 16, 2018, 07:37:44 PM »
Had a day off so I took out the Spotmatic F for the day. Shot one roll OK, but when I came to rewind it the button seemed very stiff and hard to press, but then I pressed it in and rewind the film.

Put in another film, and the rewind button hadn't popped out, and the film wouldn't wind on.

Aargh!

Anyone had a similar problem with their Spotmatic? Anyone know how to fix it, or where I might be able to get it fixed? (preferably in the UK to cut postage costs!)

It's a lovely camera and I have enjoyed using it so if possible would sooner fix this than risk another one off the 'bay.

Edit: Aha! I seem to have found a solution, of fiddling around moving the sprockets back and forth and suddenly it popped out again! Reloaded film, and it seems to be winding on OK now. Maybe something got gummed up and that loosened it?
Might still be worth a CLA though.

I've "repaired" more than one camera by cleaning the hole around the rewind button. You figured out how to reengage the advance mechanism already. If it were me I'd clean out the review button area with a small stiff brush, a little Ronsonol, and an air blower. Work it a few times to dislodge whatever junk is hiding in there.
Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

Harrow Technical were the best, but now they have retired you could try Miles Whitehead. He's just quoted me £50+ postage to service an SP1000. He's done other work for me in the past.

I had the same problem on a Spotmatic SP. An old tiny piece of film got stuck in the base of the camera. The camera shop owner sorted it out for me and it took him about 5 minutes. It was a fairly simple job. He just removed the base plate and cleaned the debris out. It then worked fine.
