Chinon CE-4 repair... HELP!
« on: November 12, 2016, 05:21:01 PM »
I'm wondering if anyone here has ever repaired a Chinon CE-4?
I've got one that's been sitting for years on the shelf and I decided to fix the stuck mirror problem. But that involves removing the top plate... and it looks like this camera is held by glue. So far all I've managed to to is remove the label on the speed selector which hides other stuff.
But what puzzles me is the wind lever. It seems to have a glued on cap on it but I can't pry it off or turn it. I tried pulling it, but it's not a comfortable situation as I have to put quite a bit of force to move it just a bit...

Anybody got an idea? other than taking the dremel to it?

Reverse thread?

Makes me think of an ME.  Not just a reverse thread but if I remember aright the speed selector stays on the top plate when you take the top off, so there's no need to fiddle with that.  Possibly best just to set it on B and remember that that's where it was.

This one has an electronic shutter, so I'll try leaving it off.

As for the advance crank... still haven't figured it out.

The rewind crank and the iso dial are out now.

OK, I managed to get into the darn thing (not without breaking a bit of plastic).
This camera was definitely not meant to be easily repaired!
More wires under the hood than in my hi-fi system.

Now, I have to remove the bayonet to remove the front housing to get access to something.
I tried removing the front plate as one unit but it seems it doesn't work like that...
I just hope I remember where every friggin screw I had to remove actually goes...
