A few days ago a camera hoarding friend I have handed me three 35mm compact cameras. A slick Ricoh FF-1, a slightly worn Olympus XA2 and a funny looking and v e r y noisy fully automatic compact that carries the name Canon MC. I shot a test roll with every one of them and then one control roll with my usual Nikon FE2. I used my go-to film RPX100@200. All developed together in one four roll tank in Rodinal 1+25 for 8 minutes. So what did I get?
-The mintish Ricoh FF-1 is unfortunately a dud. Maybe the dark Nordic weather was a bit too much for it. Too bad.
-The Olympus XA2 is very, very sharp at close range. Not so much at mid range. All in all it's quite good but nothing stellar.
-The Canon MC. Whoa! I giggled happily when I saw my first results. Very sharp but so ethereal and full of glow. Love it.
Here some samples from my Canon MC:
