Anyone else with Ondu problems?
« on: August 09, 2016, 09:59:19 PM »
Hi!
I'm wondering if I'm the only one here so far who's stuck with a slightly defective Ondu 6x6 pocket camera?
Last weekend I tried it for the very first time and while I found the usage quite nice, the nightmare started when I developed the film.
Light leaks galore!
I tried contacting them by email on sunday. Then tried again monday night. And I'm still waiting.
Now I'm wondering, those of us who have one, is the back painted black inside? Does it wobble a bit when you press on it front to back on the edge? Am I the only one so far with leaks?

Just to give you an idea about how bad it can get on mine, here's the worse one.
This was taken on an overcast day and I had been carrying the camera on the tripod for maybe 10 minutes when I took this one.

I have the multi-format version and haven't experienced any light leaks yet. I think once after loading the film but before winding it on, it took two attempts to ensure that the back was seated correctly and the magnets were doing their job.

I have a 6x6 from the first batch. No light leaks on mine thus far.
Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

I've got the 6x12 but only used it the once so far, with no problems.
On that, the back is dark brown wood but the inside is all painted black.

Like Kevin though, after putting the film in it took me a few goes to get the back closed properly and not sitting proud on one side.

That's probably where the problem is with mine. The back just loosely plops in in any direction. While the magnets do their job of holding it in, it still leaks a lot.

I'm wondering if the black paint in yours extends all the way to the edge of the camera?
All that's painted black on mine is the film chamber insert they glued in. The rest of the box inside is on bare wood.

Mine is bare wood inside except for the box in the middle. The back fits snugly; there's a tiny bit of lateral play, but it's minuscule.

I don't have the 6 x 6 but got one of the first shipments of the 35mm several years ago.
It is a beast to use.
Partly because the wood has dried out quite a bit and warped in this arid climate here.
I sent Elvis a note and wrote a review of it after receiving it.  I have only run a few rolls of film through it, but since it is not really one of my favorite pinholes, it mostly sits on the shelf drying out....

P.S. the inside is all black on mine FWIW.

One would hope the makers would do a periodic search for 'ONDU' to see what their backers experiences are. It would be wise to check in on various discussion forums to catch and furnish aid to backers who are having problems with their creations. This is especially true since they are selling these from their website.

I know that lately they've been having a hard time keeping customers satisfied, especially when it comes to the shipping. A lot of people weren't notified by the post office and their camera ended-up going back...

Now, they are in the middle of the summer vacation time that ends mid august.
I guess I'll have to wait it out...
