Bad Photo Product List
« on: July 09, 2016, 09:11:59 PM »
Following ImageFrugales' suggestion, I'm starting this thread.
The following will be a list of names of photo products to avoid at all cost.
This list will mainly contain films and chemicals with their full name and batch number and/or date where possible.
This will be accompanied by a short description of the problem.
This is not the place for the "I didn't like the grain structure of such and such" type of things.
It is the place for serious quality control problems.

Ilford Rapid Fix
Batch number: 03A028
Format: 1 Liter

Problem: Developed a strong rotten egg smell after some time. Plated the entire plastic bottle of the working solution in silver particles. Even when mixed fresh from the remaining bottle, the solution created a white precipitate at the bottom of the bottle. This is unusual for this product as the previous bottles did not exhibit such behavior. It did not prevent the fixer from working at first. It then created a strange white smear on the film which required re-fixing to remove.

Svema 64
Batch number: 12112

This is an old expired film (11/1993), so maybe this message is out of the scope of what Francois wants. If it's the case, please feel free to delete it.

The problem with this film is that emulsion chips randomly in big chunks.

This fits in the list as this shouldn't be happening no matter how old the film is.
